Hi I'm Mark Midwinter - I'm a professional full time drummer and have played for countless successful artists throughout my 30 year career. I love meeting new people and going on a journey with them to take their songs to the next level.
During my career I've played a number of different genres from Rock/Pop, Jazz, Funk, Country, Folk, Songwriter and Soul to name a few and know how to create a drum sound for the specific genre of the music through my years of doing remote recording.

Endorse Mark MidwinterI've worked with Mark for over a decade in several band settings both live and on recordings. He is an extremely talented musician, who is dedicated to his craft and bringing his best and a real team player. He's fun to have around but brings focus too and is a guy of real integrity - a genuine asset to any musical project he's involved with. Highly recommend.

Mark joined our band a few years ago after a stunning audition. He was really well prepared, sounded and fitted in great and got the job hands down.
Since then we have found out he is a man of many talents, he can play pretty much any style, finds the groove and brings so much more to the band.
His technical ability extends to applying samples through triggers, adding back tracks and recording, mixing and producing demos.
Mark is a really easy going guy to get along with, he's a great listener and contributor, 100% reliable and a pleasure work with.Having played and recorded with Mark over a number of years I can say it is always an enjoyable experience. I have worked with Mark on and off in both live and recording environments for over a decade. He always brings 100% to the project and clearly invests time in preparation work. He is a highly skilled musician and recording engineer who is constantly learning new ideas, styles and techniques. He always puts the song first rather than trying to over play or over complicate things. I would highly recommend Mark to any project.
I have worked with Mark on live and recording projects. For both he has been exceptional in his musicianship. For the recording project I was provided with all the drum tracks (stems) for my project which were easy to insert into my track and they sound AMAZING! Well produced and recorded - this guy knows his stuff. I highly recommend Mark - he is also a nice guy - so easy to work with and always wants to make sure your happy with his work - & adaptable to make changes.
I've loved working with Mark on a number of live and recorded projects. He is a skilled, creative and adaptable drummer and very gifted all-round musician. He brings a huge amount of skill and knowledge to both playing and production, and he's also friendly, reliable and a lot of fun to work with. Top guy!
Mark is a solid drummer in all styles and works hard at his craft. He's flexible, approachable and easy to get along with. He also knows a lot about technology, which is very useful!
Interview with Mark Midwinter
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm currently recording some songs for a Blues/Funk singer.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Yes - Rachel Redman and Matt Hodge. Both masters in what they do and really lovely people.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a digital recording setup with a Universal Audio Apollo at the heart of it. I also own a lot of the UA Plugins and have additional DSP cards so that I can run quite a number of them at a time and if needs be I can record these in real time straight into the DAW to give mix-ready drums. I also have some outboard compressors (UA and Empirical Labs) which I can use as part of the tracking if needed as well. I have a purpose built studio which has been converted and is soundproofed. There's a listing of some of my gear in the window opposite - .All the drums are multi-tracked through multiple devices and hardware but if you've got any particular questions then ask. :)
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I think it depends on the situation - both have advantages and disadvantages. Recording in digital is so easy these days and is getting easier with the plugins getting better.. That said I do have some outboard compressors which I use.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Meeting new people, making music and also helping clients to get to where they're looking to get to.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Have you got a style of beat in mind you'd like me to re-create or would you like me to construct a part for your song? How quick do you want the song turned around in?
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: The Low Cut Filter is so useful and so often overlooked. ;-)
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I like to think of myself as a musical player. I'm always listening to the song and don't add in more than is needed. I think playing a good groove is the most essential thing as a drummer to lock everything in together.
