My name is Leo Freire and I am a New York City based Music Director, Producer, and Drummer.
I am a passionate music lover, constantly curious about the direction of pop music, and seeking to re-imagine our role as musicians in the path to push music forward. I love to explore the dynamic between the creative, performance, and sonic elements of the musical process.
Some of the artists include:
Wheatus (global multi-platinum hit with "Teenage Dirtbag"), Andrew W.K., Flatbush Zombies (Top 10 Billboard 200), Darryl “DMC” McDaniels (Run DMC), Viktor Király (Hungary No. 2 Top 40), Kate Nauta (Transformer 2), Fly By Midnight (No. 6 Spotify Global Viral 50), Hypodive (Fieldhouse/ BMG), January Jane (Whiskey Vinyl), Mike Doughty (Soul Coughing), My World (BMG), Todd Alsup (Yamaha Corporate Artist), and more.
I have performed for crowds ranging from one to 22,000, sharing the stage with some of the highest-selling, biggest acts in modern music. And I have produced and played on dozens of recordings to date.
It is my passion to share my journey to help others achieve their musical visions and I will tirelessly and diligently work to make that happen. I am quick and highly open to direction and look forward to working together!

Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm also always studying music (particularly pop) composition and production, listening to the latest hits, dissecting what makes them a hit both lyrically and melodically, and fine tuning my knowledge of production and mixing. I also spend time daily continuously developing myself as a music instrumentalist, practicing instruments including piano, guitar, singing, and drums.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Once I commit to a project, I promise to give you the respect you deserve by investing my full effort and ability to make sure we both deliver the highest quality product at our disposal.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: My primary concentration is usually pop, both for live performances and for music production. With that said, I also have extensive credits and expertise on rock and hip hop music.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My psychological awareness during a session has helped me adapt to making a recording experience successful with both high level established recording artists and those who are starting out. I am highly attentive to detail and will go above and beyond to make a session what the client expects of it.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I think about how to create a plan with short, medium, and long term goals to accomplish a task. When working with a client, I sit with them and brainstorm the best ways to achieve these goals by actively communicating to make sure we are both on the same page. This is with the expectation that together we can strategize the most efficient and high quality ways to get there.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: As a live touring performer and music director, I constantly prepare live backing tracks for artists who are building their live show. As a producer, I constantly develop songs into full productions, whether they start as acoustic demos or more developed audio demos.
