Interview with Mark Niemiec
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I was asked by India.Arie's team to come in and do a remix on her Grammy Nominated album. Was a huge deal!!!
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Yes. Constantly on all kinds of projects from mixing, drumming or video production
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Dave Spak. Amazing percussionist and drum tech for Tim Mcgraw
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. Love analogue, but the affordability of digital is where it's at.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise is to deliver to my clients expectations
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Being creative
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Budget. I customize it per artist
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That I'm only one thing. I'm a drummer, engineer, producer and film maker.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Direction of the song, timeline and budget
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Just reach out and give it a try. we can create something special
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Laptop, Headphones, Microphone, sunscreen and beer
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been drumming for 42 years and have been an engineer for 26 of those years
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: A Mix of rock, pop and jazz.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I'm a big fan of rock music. Peter Gabriel, Sting, Foo Fighters...
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: let the artist have a say. in the end it's not my project but the artist's.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Rock, Pop, Country, Jazz....
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is accuracy and efficiency .
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a fresh perspective to a song by not "phoning" it in. every project is approached as if it were a song that I would release myself. I take it very personal.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I like to discuss with the artists about what direction or sound they are looking for before I get started with actually recording or mixing. Collaboration is the most important part in getting to the perfect end result.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Pro tools 2026, UAD, Waves, Izotope, Arturia, Shadow Hills
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Mix engineers/producers like Chris Lord-Alge, Greg wells, Ken Andrews are some of the few I connect with
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I love recording and mixing for artists and bands or individuals. being involved from the beginning of the first note recorded to the final bounce of mix is what I live for.
