To me, the difference between good playing and great playing is empathy… connecting emotionally with the song. It’s beyond technique. The only thing I asked of Dan was that he bring his heart to the work, and play something he’d be proud of. What I got back was impeccable taste and tone, and an understated elegance that can’t be taught… pure empathy expressed in music. As it should be. Something wonderful!
