Interview with Jonny Fitch
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital- Emulator plugins are getting very powerful and accessible and I've grown up using DAWs!
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I will not stop until you are happy with the mix!
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Every day is different! Working with talented artists is an exciting thing.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: What's the timescale of the mix? Obviously depends on the song- I try to get a final product within 1 week but depending on the artist cooperation and communication it could take up to 2 weeks.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: People think as I'm inexperienced I am a bad producer. It's all a lie
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Have you a demo track recorded? Is your track inspired by another song/style of another artist?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Send me a message! I promise I'm friendly, we can talk about your project and how I can apply my skills to help you!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My computer, Audio interface, any Microphone, Headphones and a Midi Keyboard
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I am trained in BSc Music Technology & Sonic Arts at QUB and am due to graduate with a 1st Class honours degree. There I learnt the trade whilst doing small projects with local musicians. This has led me to aspire to produce for musicians across the world and embrace the world of music.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: As someone who is new to the music scene, I am not defined as a producer as of yet. I have worked on New Alternate/ Pop music projects and Rock projects so I'm open to ideas.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would like to work with Jon Bellion as he has such a creative mind and creates some of my favourite tracks ever. He knows exactly what sound he wants and makes sure he gets it.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don't take anything but the best- If you want a particular sound... Get the sound
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: In the past I've worked in co-writes, full song productions, mixing/mastering and recording.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is perfectionism- as a learner I like to know how to make things as good as possible and I will keep working until the aims are met
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I'm new to the scene- some say unexperienced- but I'm heavily trained in mixing/mastering from my BSc in Music Technology.. I'm not afraid to experiment and make songs better than you expect.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I like to keep my process clean- Lay down the essentials, make them sound good.. THEN add creative processing and spice to make songs great
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I use Ableton Live 10 on Custom Windows 10 PC (32gb Ram, 4.2gHz i7 hex-core, GTX1060 GPU), Focusrite Scarlett Pro 40 Firewire interface with KRK RP5 G3 Monitors
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Jon Bellion, Justin Bieber, Disclosure, Honne, Billie Eilish
