Interview with Rowen Reecks
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: The project I'm the most proud of is Rowen Reecks - I Wanna Sex You Up. This was my first project on an A label (Warner Music - Spinnin' Records) I did everything 100% myself (Production, Mix/Master & vocal production).
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Currently I'm working on a few new masters for Warner Music (2) , Universal (1) and Sony Music (2)! Besides that I'm writing a lot of new music everyday :)
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: No, there is no-one I know on SoundBetter yet!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital, because it's faster and it sounds almost the same! I have a lot analog gear but I only use it in the mastering proces! This is where I like analog more than digital!
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: That I always will give 100% for you and give you the best product possible!
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love the fact that I can be creative every single day of the week!
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: My customers mostly ask me for advice. I always try to be as honest as possible and I try to get the end result as high as possible in terms of quality.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That now-a-days producers can't mix like in the 80's!
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I ask them what they are exactly looking for and what their taste is! I try to combine both to make something the customer really loves!
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Take a look at the previews the producers can provide and chose someone who is very close to the style you see as "perfect"!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Monitors for monitoring - A microphone for recording - A mixing desk for mixing - My laptop for producing & a good coffee machine!
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been producing for 7 years right now! 2 years ago I started producing for other acts which gained me releases on almost all the big major labels in the electronic music world. Most of these singles are 100% produced and mixed & mastered by me!
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Out of the box and a high standard quality regarding production & mixes! I can do EVERYTHING myself :)
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with Dua Lipa because of her amazing voice!
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: There are no rules! Think out of the box!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work on EDM kind of stuff like Pop, Indie, Future Bass, House & RnB!
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is to make exactly what my clients wants! Besides that all of my work has a certain business standard quality which is rare to find!
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I always try to make a production or mix down stand out. You can describe my work as high quality and stand-out.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I usually start with the getting my clients and their taste to know. Once I know what they want I start making a few demo's. I let my clients chose from these demo's and together we get to an end result where I always try to please the wishes of my clients!
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I'm located in a professional studio with Dynaudio M3 & Tannoy System 8 monitors! Besides that I work with a Sony MXP 3056 (56 input) mixer and a lot of analog hardware!
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I'm very inspired by producers like Max Martin, Martin Garrix and Calvin Harris.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I mostly do ghost production and mixing/mastering for the most of my clients! Besides that I produce pop music for artists & I do songwriting / vocal mixing for clients!
