Interview with Lucas Dos Santos
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started to work in a church as a sound technician and I worked in the same place for 4 years. After I moved to Montevideo and I went to the College. Here I studied for 3 years Music Production and Sound Design. I've graduated in 2016. I've worked in a Musical for 3 years as a musician and Music Producer. I've made several records with different artists, also a DVD recorded live, and some videoclips as well. In 2017 I went to the US and worked for 2 years as a Musician and Sound technician in a mega church in Sayreville, New Jersey. I've returned to Uruguay and I'm involved in different projects with artists not only from Uruguay but from all over the world.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Clean and perfectionist.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Lecrae, Earth Wind & fire, Justin Timberlake, Ariana Grande, among others. They are all phenomenal not only artists but producers too. I think I could learn a lot working with them.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Little changes makes big differences.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Gospel music, Pop, hip-hop, trap, r&b, soul, funk.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Mixing
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Presence, life, dynamics, crispy and fat sound.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I import the audio tracks. Once they're imported I put them in phase. After I start the process of editing to have an organized project. Once is everything edited (cuts, fades, etc) I start to mix taking care of any individual track. Adding what it needs to be add (insertions, EQing, dynamics, effects). Once it's done and ready to master, I start the process of the Master which I'll meticulously get in the details for a better final audio product. Treating the song without losing the dynamics given at the mix and putting the song in a commercial and standard sound level.
