Interview with Jahta Manilla
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Long time ago I did a Remix contest "Syleena Johnson - A Boss" I took only the vocals an made a totally new music behind. and I won. I was proud but what i liked the most was that my music was finally listened by a lot of people.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: singers EP
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both, but nowadays we can approach analog sound with digital , and digital is less expensive
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: To make it sound better after they send it to me
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: A midi Keyboard, a guitar, a computer, a microphone and a soundcard
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: 20 years
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I Make music, this is not a style but if i could say something, my influences is a mix between Soul Music, Tropical Musics, Jazz, Hiphop, RnB...... but i tend to not sound like someone else, i love originality
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Singers, to collaborate on albums or singles Artist who want to mix their songs Agencies for Sound design and for adds or films
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: To be organize in your DAW session from the very beginning
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work on some urban type of music but i dont stop myself with musical styles . I make music
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Harmonize songs melodies
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: To push it to the next level ,I try my best to keep the artist vision but with my own style.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Depending on the work. For exemple if I produce the entire song : Sometime client send me Acapella vocals with no music or ruff vocals ideas and I start with that. Sometime I send back the instrumental, the singer re record it if it needs to, and send it back to me for the mixing process and sometime do musical arrangements to fit with the new vocal track. Othertimes I send an instrumental, and we exchange with the client to decide if we move somethings or change the structure. And then the singer send the vocals tracks to me for mixing.

A: Logic Pro, Focusrite Saffire 56, Adam A5X Monitors, Rhodes MkI, Pianos, Guitars, Bass, Drums, Shure SM7B, Neumann TLM102, Slate Digital...
