J. Tom Hnatow on SoundBetter

Session Musician and Recording Engineer with over 100 records to my credit. Recorded with: Ringo Starr, These United States, Horse Feathers, The Mynabirds, Joe Pug, Justin Wells, Vandaveer, Dawn Landes, among others.

I'm a multi-instrumentalist and studio engineer based in Lexington, KY. Over the past 15 years I've played on over 100 records, in addition to touring all over the place.

a few highlights include:
-Dobro on Ringo Starr's "Give More Love" ("Don't Pass Me By (re-do)" and "Photograph"
-Bass, Pedal Steel, Electric Guitar on Horse Feathers "Appreciation"
-Pedal Steel and Piano on Joe Pug's "Windfall"
-Pedal Steel, Electric Guitar, Dobro, Bass on Justin Well's "Dawn in the Distance"
-Electric Guitar, Pedal Steel, Lap Steel, Dobro, Banjo on multiple albums by These United States

My instruments include pedal steel, lap steel, electric guitar, bass guitar, and banjo. I'm also fairly proficient on keyboards!

My experience on all sides of the recording process - from producer to session musician to guy who makes coffee for the client - means I understand what works in a track, and the experience with how to get that sound.

I have a fantastic home studio suitable for recording everything I need, and access to a number of fantastic session musicians, including drums, fiddle/violin, vocals (male/female) and probably anything else you'd need!

Tell me about your project and how I can help, through the 'Contact' button above.

This was such an effortless experience and I highly advise if you need some solid pedal steel on your songs. 5/5, easily!

Tom has produced and engineered well over 40 songs for me and I intend to keep him in mind for the next 40. Professional, proficient and well worth the money for easing the headaches that you may get elsewhere.

I've had the opportunity to work with Tom back in the 00's and was impressed by his technical proficiency, versatility, ability to improvise and adapt on the fly. He is a consummate professional, a gifted musican, and a great hang.

Tom is a master at his craft. He played pedal steel and lead guitar on my most recent album, and his thoughtful and artful musicianship brought the songs to life.
