Andrew's a really talented producer, writer and vocalist, who was great to work with! Looking forward to the next one.
I HIGHLY recommend Andrew. He is an amazing artist in his own right and anyone would be LUCKY to have him be part of their project. His production skills are top notch and at the standard required for song placement in tv/film. It is hard to find a producer with chops this good! If he's willing to work on your project, snag him while you can because he is gonna be too successful to have time to do work on Soundbetter before you know it.
After a very disappointing experience with the first singer we hired, my co-writer and I hired Andrew to sing the lead, and maybe some BGV’s/Harmony tracks to our song. Andrew came back immediately to us with a killer lead track, and simply awesome vocal arrangements for BGV’s and harmonies. It was WAY beyond our expectations and what we asked for!
THE PROOF: The song was picked up by a publisher, and my co-writer and I signed a single-song contract BECAUSE OF ANDREW’S CONTRIBUTION to the song! That’s how you spellAndrew is a part of the nonprofit organization I work for, Melody of Hope. He is extremely talented and such a great person to work with! He is very professional, always has his work done on time (or ahead), never late to any gigs, has the coolest setup and is very creative with his lyrics not to mention has a great voice! You are missing out if you have not worked with Andrew yet!
Andrew is the kind of pop vocalist that when you hear what he's done with your song, you go ahhhhh yes, that's it exactly. He's a pro in all ways, delivers files ready to go. Vocals are tuned and timed, with effects and without. All I have to do is drop them in, do a little tweaking, and it's done. He's a very talented vocalist, and I recommend him highly!
Interview with Andrew Plan
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I did a collaboration with Kristine Wriding called "People Needing People." I co-wrote the song with her, sang the lead vocals and produced it myself. The song means a lot to me, especially the lyrics. I'm glad it's out there and I hope it heals hearts.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: My artist project :)
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Denny White! He did a great job with my debut single and was a pleasure to work with.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital. I love the portability and versatility of my studio, and digital makes it possible.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I will give my best to your project, not only the music but also the experience of working with me.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: That I get to create music! No better job in the world for me :)
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Who is the audience for this project? What are your "must-haves"? Do you have any reference tracks? Is there anything you think I need to know to deliver the best possible music I can for you?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: The more details about the creative project you're wanting to complete, the better :) Please also attach a voice memo / demo / lyrics for the song you want me to contribute to, so I can make sure I'm the right guy for it.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My current setup! Macbook Pro, Apogee Hypemic, Kaotica Eyeball, Sennheiser HD598s, Korg Nanokey Studio
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been singing and songwriting for over 15 years and producing for over 2 years.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Heartfelt, comforting, soulful, emotive. Smooth baritone vocals with tenor moments and songwriting that aims to heal, inspire and empower.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Ryan Tedder. The man is a phenomenal talent. He's written so many great songs and has such a handle on the craft. It'd be an honor to be in the room with him.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: For vocals I find it helpful to focus on one section at a time, building the lead and then the background on top. It helps me dial in a vibe that informs how I sing the rest of the song.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I would say my sweet spot is in the Soft Pop space -- think Ed Sheeran, John Mayer, Lewis Capaldi. I've also done work in the acoustic folk genre.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Empathy. As an artist myself I understand how important projects are to my clients, and that motivates me to bring my best to every project, so that my clients feel creatively fulfilled in working with me.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring heart, dedication and a commitment to quality. I want to create the best result that I can for my clients and I won't stop till I get there.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: For songwriting, I start by gathering as much information about what the client wants, whether that's via a brief or conversations. I then extract key theme(s) and/or phrases that I think are important to what the song wants to be. From there usually a melody comes to me, and I pull on that thread to start building the rest of the song. That being said, every song ends up being a different journey and that's part of the fun :) For vocals, I like to build one section at a time. I often start with the chorus and layer that until I get the sound and vibe I think meshes with what my client is looking for. From there I build out the rest of the vocals.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I like to keep my setup streamlined. I've got a Macbook Pro (M1 Pro), and I compose, produce, mix and master in Logic Pro X. I record vocals with my Apogee HypeMic + Kaotica Eyeball and I program MIDI with my Korg Nanokey Studio. I've also got a pair of Sennheiser HD598s that I use for monitoring with in conjunction with Sonarworks Reference ID.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Ryan Tedder, Charlie Puth, John Mayer, Ed Sheeran, Russ, Kris Bradley
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I record lead and background vocals as well as custom songwriting and production.
