Interview with Barney Sykes
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise is to deliver exactly what you want, almost all of the time faster than any other singer out there, and to the high levels that I demand of myself.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I like the freedom that music gives you
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Commonly I am asked about featuring on the tracks, but as I am offering this vocal service only for a limited time - it is very rare that I'd want to be featured on them. This is almost always better for the customer, as they are able to release their songs or pitch their demos with their own names front and center.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I will typically receive a song, make sure that it fits my key and tone and then go ahead straight in and record. I am known for my speed and turn around time regarding vocals and for that reason the energy on the tracks is usually right - you can always tell when someone has spent too long on the vocals and a spark is missing.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I mostly do Lead vocals along with some Backing vocals for my clients. In rare cases I do a lot of harmonies but in modern tracks there are less harmonies going on even though I love doing them.
