Working with Marty was awesome! He's a very talented producer, his tracks are very clean mixed and delivers very catchy grooves. His tune is still in my head!
Looking forward to work with him again! Marty is a fantastic vocalist and songwriter. I have worked with him on over 20 projects and he is hands down my favorite songwriter to work with. I would and have recommended him to anyone needing lyrics and topline melodies written. Easy 5 stars
Marty is awesome! He is very friendly. His mixing notes are very detail and precise, so they'll always help me create higher quality sounds. Marty is the one who can write, sing and produce. He's super talented!
Interview with Marty Barrick EDM Vocalist
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I have a tech house project called Reverend Haus that is taking off!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital, you can work from anywhere and you can just emulate!
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Give me as much detail as you can and PLEASE be open and honest and feel free to ask/say anything you want! This is about YOU and YOUR vision. What kind of artist would I be if I couldn't help bring life to your song!
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Hire someone you feel will work WITH you and wants to see your project through and thrive!
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been writing, recording, and producing for 5 years!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: EDM/Pop
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is writing catchy topline melodies/hooks. Catchy hooks and topline melodies come very very easily to me, thankfully.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Having written and produced 100+ songs, I usually start with a hook or a catchy lyric that I have to record asap and the tune or musical melody is playing in my head which I produce out, and that starts my work process.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I've got a Steinberg UR28M Audio Interface, multiple mics leading with the Slate Digital VMS Virtual Microphone System, 2-Rokit KRK 5's, and a complete soundproof/quiet studio.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I usually do vocal hooks and advise on melodic arrangement of track OR co-write and help speed up the sometimes difficult songwriting (lyrical and arrangement) process.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Probably MDNT BLVD. We wrote and produced the entire album in just under 2 months earlier in our careers and it came out awesome. I learned so much about collaborating and myself as an artist/writer/singer/producer. It required so much of me at that time and I was really fortunate to have that experience. I did the vocals and wrote the lyrics.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Haterade (Noah Lloyd), a top tier multi-genre music producer and engineer.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I will never abandon a project and I will work WITH you and for YOUR vision.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Being able to monetize off of my love of creative arts. Just the opportunity of the idea alone makes me feel like I've 'made' it.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: How many revisions would I accept? I personally will and want to see all project I accept, through. Third revision I require a video meeting so we can figure out what I can do to satisfy YOU as a client.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: It's not easy. At all. If you truly want to be successful you either have to get an education in this industry or diligently study this art for YEARS and it requires a mountain of patience.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Well since there likely isn't any electric unless its Diplo's Island... I would take a water purifier, solar powered camping lamp, and a machete. Dont need 5, just need 3.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I would describe my style as very original and extremely identifiable. I have such a wide range of texture, I can speak different languages English being my first, I can do several accents, and when you take all of that and mix genres and genre styles you can get some really cool music. I use the same technique in producing as well, combining vocal genres with musical genres.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Empire of the Sun, specifically Luke Steele. Their production and the uniqueness of his voice resonate with me. I feel we have the same ranges vocally and I consider myself an Electronic/EDM producer. I feel I could learn a lot from them since I identify with their style so much.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Simplicity is key. Listen and really study your top 3 favorite songs. Listen to the hook/drop. Typically, you'll find about 5-7 elements playing tops. Between kick, drums, vocals, percussion, Fx, it can get pretty out of hand if you're not careful. Do your best to keep your arrangement simple which, in turn, will make it easier for you to mix and finalize.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: My voice is unique, its very original, I can do different accents, Ive written songs in different languages, and I've never had writers block during production. My production is really versatile and I feel confident in a majority of the work that I do.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Some artists that inspire me are 3Lau, Martin Garrix, Porter Robinson, Dillon Francis, Calvin Harris, Lil Jon, and Empire of the Sun.
