I've worked closely with Jared for several years. He is an individual who truly gives everything to his work. He does not rest until the project is as great as it can possibly be. From a creative standpoint, his approach is thoughtful, meticulous, and positive. But, more importantly, his work ethic speaks for itself. Whether you're looking for a slap, a vibe, or a slapping vibe, he always delivers.

Jared has been mixing and mastering for me for years and I wouldn't have it any other way. Why? Because he is reliable and does not rest until it sounds good to all ears on the project. He's done a significant amount of recording work for me so I trust him to record any instrument. And, as a vocal producer myself, the guy puts the sauce on vocal tracks. His level of dedication keeps me coming back.

When you hire Jared, you are getting one of the most talented, creative, and hard working people out there. I've worked with him not only as a sideman for other projects, but also on my own music. Scheduling is easy with him and he always starts the session on time and prepared. His music school background is a huge plus in the studio when developing chord progressions, harmonies, and arrangements. He also has a large network of amazing musicians that he can call on for your project if you need a band. No matter your project, you'll be extremely happy you chose to work with Jared.

Jared helped me record, mix, and master my EP and I couldn't be happier with the result. As a producer, Jared is patient and takes the time to make sure each song is as good as it possibly can be. He pushed me to get the best takes and really took into account what I was trying to accomplish with the record as a whole.

Jared's attention to detail in his mixing is unparalleled in my experience with other engineers. He took the time to make adjustments and get everything exactly where I wanted. Jared brought my vision to life and I can't wait to work with him again!

Interview with Jared Atol

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: The current project I am working on because the whole process has been seamless. The artist and I have spent an incredible amount of time getting everything just right and her commitment to capturing the true essence of every track has been unparalleled. We were sculpting a new sound for her and I am extremely happy with the results.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Currently I am finishing a record for a local artist that I produced, mixed and mastered, and I am extremely excited to release it.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: There are amazing mixers on this platform and I would be remised not to suggest any one of them if you have the budget. The talent residing on this platform is astounding. It goes back to who you vibe with and trust.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Both. Getting sounds and performances that sound incredible from the source is the best scenario for the end result. Getting as much mojo and vibe from the production helps influence the rest of the project. Making those decisions up front is crucial. Typically the analog side of things I rely on the front end of the production. Mixing has an immense amount of tools at my disposal in the box.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I promise to do everything within my capabilities to deliver a product you are satisfied with.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: Seeing the growth of a project. When we finally get to share it with the world and the sense of pride you get from creating something from nothing, and seeing people react to it.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: haha whats your rate? - Depends on the scope of the project.

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: What music do you listen to/aspire to sound like? What kind of timeline are you looking at? Style of production - live or produced in the computer? How many songs have you written, and how many are you wanting to record? What style of vocal production do you like with examples? What expectations do you have from me and from the end result of the project?

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: Make certain that you are comfortable with the person and they are someone you can trust. Difficult to do through a screen but try to have conversations and gage if they are the right personality for you and your project.

  19. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  20. A: My computer, an Apollo twin, a great large diaphragm condenser mic, my profit analog synth and my monitors.

  21. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  22. A: I went to school for performance at the University of Denver. After graduation I began buying gear and studying with friends and producers in the area to begin to record my own music. Soon my phone began to ring to record all of my friends records. Over the past eight years that work has come in from different states, and I have gotten opportunities to assist and learn from great producers and mixers in Nashville, Austin and Denver.

  23. Q: How would you describe your style?

  24. A: Flexible and energetic

  25. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  26. A: Frank Ocean - his artistry and lyricism is admirable. He spends significant amounts of time on records giving every little detail intent. His productions are extremely thoughtful and to be apart of that process would be a dream come true.

  27. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  28. A: put all of your effort into capturing a great performance and a great sound from the start. Everything after that becomes significantly easier down the road.

  29. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  30. A: The two genres I get hired for the most is pop and jazz.

  31. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  32. A: working with artists to truly capture the emotion the song is trying to convey.

  33. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  34. A: vision

  35. Q: What's your typical work process?

  36. A: Ideally I start every project with an in depth conversation to fully understand what the artist/bands goal is with the production. I like to get references from bands they enjoy, or scratch recordings of the songs they are trying to do. Once the work has begun it is my job to always keep the overall vision in sight. My priority is to always make decisions based on what is best for this particular song.

  37. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  38. A: I have a great mixing, and overdub room thats acoustically treated, and has some great analog gear. I have a collection of iconic analog keyboards - Rhodes, Profit, and a Juno. My monitoring is top of the line, and I have a decent collection of mics and preamps. When working with live bands I have a great tracking room I utilize with an SSL board and a plethora of outboard gear to get the job done.

  39. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  40. A: As far as production and mixing goes, I am inspired by names like - Greg Wells, Mixed by Ali, Alex Tumay, Malay and Dwight Baker. Artists such as Chance the Rapper, Frank Ocean, Tyler the Creator, SZA, Arianna Grande, John Mayer, John Legend and Bon Iver.

  41. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  42. A: For local artists I typically produce their record from start to finish - engineering, producing, mixing and mastering their songs. I am involved with every aspect of their journey helping discover the best presentation of their art. For artists not located in Denver I typically remotely mix and master their music once it has been recorded.
