Ernie's editing & comp work is INCREDIBLE. Sent him a very complicated project I had been stuck on for a while. Gave him detailed notes and explained what I was trying to accomplished and he did it basically overnight - no questions asked. I could not have asked for a better result. Super friendly and accommodating too. Thanks!

Ernie was pretty spot on on everything, he understood what the track needed without much direction from me. Now the track has to live up to his performance which is no easy task. 10/10

Interview with Ernie Slenkovich

  1. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  2. A: I've always wanted to work with music professionally as a career. I started with jamming in garage bands and recording bad demos in my basement. Fast forward to touring around the country, and building my fascination for recording. After stints of touring, I started to be more involved in the recording, session drummer world and haven't looked back. I've been doing this for a little over a decade now.

  3. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  4. A: Drumming and audio editing.

  5. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  6. A: Don’t be afraid to try new things, don’t always follow the rules, and be yourself!

  7. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  8. A: When people think producers have a “magic button” that instantly make a track sound like it was played well and edited instantly. I believe songs sound good from the players and the engineers/editors who put it together. If there was a “button” like that, people like me would unfortunately never have work. Although it would be kind of interesting to try if it really did exist!

  9. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  10. A: Overall, I’ll ask what expectations of the project are, what my guidelines are as far as contributiong creatively or strictly following a reference, or how a project should be edited according to the clients tatse.

  11. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  12. A: Be honest, have an open mind, be prepared, communication is key.

  13. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  14. A: I like that my job revolves around music, doing what I love, and helping/collaborating with others that are passionate about music too. It almost doesn’t feel like a job!

  15. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  16. A: I’m currently working on a new record for Veil of Maya that will most likely be released in 2020.

  17. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  18. A: I promise my clients that I will take a part of the workload off their shoulders. They can trust that their project is in good hands and will get a final product that they can be satisfied with.

  19. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  20. A: I commonly do drum session work, drum editing, vocal editing, vocal production, tracking, and co-writing.

  21. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  22. A: I’m new to this site so I unfortunately don’t know anyone who uses this yet. But once I do, I will definitely update this with a recommendation!

  23. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  24. A: Both! Analog brings a timeless sound where newer products lack. However, digital makes things way easier and more streamlined. I mean, if I were tracking or editing in analog, my turn around times would be a whole lot longer! ;)

  25. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  26. A: I typically work on Rock, Metal, Pop, Rap, Singer/Songwiter types of music.
