Steve made a really great job on my song ! He also brought his own ideas to the project which proved to be a real added value. He's patient and responds promplty to requests. I definitely recommend Steve for your projects !
Steve’s vision, attention to detail and skill is everything I’ve ever wanted and looked for in a producer!
Great guitarist! He pushes himself to get the best mixes and sounds. Thank you Steve
I've worked with Steve on a number of projects! I can't say enough good things! He is a fantastic player, engineer, photographer, cinematographer... he is all things creative and killer at them, but an even better person! I'd work with Steve any day of the week, and am extremely happy with everything he's worked on!
Interview with Steve Kinney
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I'm especially proud of this last release with Katrina Burgoyne. I produced, tracked, mixed & mastered the track. Overnight, it went to #4 on the country charts in Australia.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Currently finishing up the last few songs on Katrina Burgoyne's next album.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Yes.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise to make your song sound like you.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Take the song where the song needs to go, not where your favorite song went.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: An Apollo Interface Chandler Limiter Roland Space Echo Fender Thinline Telecaster & a U47
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been making music since I was a little kid. Working on old tape portasdudios, and old FL Studio 7. Eventually moving on to pro tools and became a gear head. Landed an internship at Ben Folds studio in Nashville. Studied under Steve Bishir. Eventually got a job like most people. Eventually, I left the corporate world for Wild West of the music world.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Always trying to make a wall of sound.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Take the song where it needs to go, not where your favorite song went.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Anything with a guitar.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My attention to detail.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Exploration, creative approach to sound design.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: It's a hybrid setup, outboard gear. I detail almost all of my gear in my profile.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Keith Urban is a huge influence. Oasis Coldplay John Mayer to name a few
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Typically, I do full productions. Start to finish. I'll take a demo, and completely rebuild it from the ground up. All tracking, mixing, editing, & mastering. I'll also do a lot of guitar work for clients, electric tracks, bass, and acoustic guitar.
I was the Producer, Mix & Mastering Engineer, Electric Gtr, Bass, BGV's in this production
