Tonio is a superb violinist! He is a very expressive player with an absolutely beautiful tone, and showed great musical judgement too! I couldn't be happier with the result, thanks again Tonio!

Interview with TONG

  1. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  2. A: I was born and raised as a classical child, started playing violin with 5 years, took part in yearly competitions and had an excellent musical education. With 18 I started studying a classical Bachelor for violin in Mannheim, Germany. Then I moved to the Netherlands where I studied another Bachelor for jazz and pop music at ArtEZ in Arnhem. in 2017 I releaesd my first EP "Constant Magic". My song "Schillerize" first hit the 1 mio plays on Spotify. Since a year I'm working as a feelander - recording, producing and performing. In my shows you mostly find professional dancers performing on stage to my songs.

  3. Q: How would you describe your style?

  4. A: My style is alternative electronic pop music, or call it organic electronic. I love catchy and ambiguous lyrics that tell a story about love, seek, emotions and nature. In my songs you always hear my violins and extra voices. I love that certain high-like flow when expressing my own style. With every song of mine I build up a new world, drag you into it and hope to release you with an open heart.

  5. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  6. A: I'm trained in understanding what the songs need most: which sound suits best, which lines could make it epic, if there should be effects added or if layered lines could need another take, recorded with my damper to give it the greatest realness.

  7. Q: What's your typical work process?

  8. A: First someone writes me with a recording request. Then I listen to the song that was sent with the request and I check on how I would play/ sing the requested wishes. Next I think about what I can do to make the song more complete - these are mostly second voices and sound effects. At that point I reply to the client with my collected ideas and a proposal. After the agreement I start recording the next day. I'm lucky - my clients are always very happy with my work and mostly don't ask for a revision. If so, I record those wishes gladly on the same day.

  9. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  10. A: Please have a listen to my colleagues and then decide which sound suits you best!

  11. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  12. A: violin - bow - mic - interface - computer (can I also take a generator to the island?)

  13. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  14. A: I'd love to work with O Mer. His music is like heaven for me. I truly love the detail about his clear voice, the simple but effective beats he makes and the synths worlds he creates to his songs. Yeah, I'd really love to work with him one day!

  15. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  16. A: Be gentle with compression. Stay playful and try out the stuff you fear!

  17. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  18. A: Mostly I record pop songs/ for pop songs and soundtracks.

  19. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  20. A: The clients say that my violin recordings enrich their songs greatly.

  21. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  22. A: -> I write and produce various music for companies as well as for theatre, dance and film makers -> I record my violin and my voice for composers and producers -> I write catchy lyrics (german and english) for singers, composers and producers

  23. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  24. A: - an amazing violin by Andreas Augustin - an extraordinary violin bow by A.E. Prager - several violin dampers with outstanding sound - a black Rode NT1 - a Focusrite interface - FL studio

  25. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  26. A: Since I write alternative electronic dance music, I love artists like O Mer, Moglii and NAO.
