Interview with AK Saurav

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: One of the projects I’m most proud of was a song where my role involved mixing and mastering the complete production. I focused on improving the vocal clarity, overall balance, dynamics, and depth while preserving the original character of the song.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I’m currently working on music projects involving mixing, mastering, vocal editing, and production, while continuing to build my portfolio across different genres.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: I primarily work digitally because it gives me precise control, flexibility, and an efficient workflow. I focus on the sound and the result rather than limiting the process to a particular format.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: My promise is to treat every song with care and attention, listen to the client's needs, and work until the final result meets the agreed direction and quality.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: I enjoy taking a production that already has a musical idea and helping it reach its full potential through mixing and mastering. It is especially rewarding when the final result feels more clear, powerful and emotional without losing the original character.

  11. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  12. A: Clients often ask whether their song can be improved through mixing or mastering. My answer is that every production is different, and I first listen carefully to understand what the song needs before deciding how to approach it.

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: A common misconception is that mixing is simply about making every track louder or adding effects. Good mixing is about balance, clarity, dynamics, space, and making all the elements work together to serve the song.

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: I usually ask about the client's preferred sound, genre, references and any specific areas they want improved. I also ask about the intended release format and whether there are particular elements of the mix they want me to focus on.

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: Choose a mixing or mastering engineer whose style matches the sound you want for your music. Listen to their previous work, communicate your expectations clearly, and provide good-quality stems and useful references when possible.

  19. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  20. A: I started working seriously in music mixing in 2018 and have been developing my skills through hands-on experience with different songs and genres ever since. Over the years, I have expanded my work to include mixing, mastering, vocal editing, and tuning. I continue to refine my approach with every project.

  21. Q: How would you describe your style?

  22. A: I would describe my style as clean, balanced, musical and natural. I like mixes that have clarity and impact while still preserving the emotion and character of the original performance.

  23. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  24. A: I would love to work with Ed Sheeran because of the emotional simplicity and musicality in his songs. His productions leave space for the songwriting and vocal performance while still having a polished modern sound.

  25. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  26. A: I mainly work on Pop, Indie Pop, Singer-Songwriter, Pop-Rock, R&B/Soul, Hip Hop, Folk/Acoustic and Soft Pop productions.

  27. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  28. A: I bring a careful ear, attention to detail, and a focus on musicality. My goal is not to change the identity of a song but to bring out its strengths and make the production sound clearer, more balanced, and more impactful.

  29. Q: What's your typical work process?

  30. A: I first listen to the complete production to understand its arrangement, emotion and overall direction. I then work through the vocals and instruments, balance levels, shape the tone, control dynamics and create depth and space. Finally, I check the mix from different perspectives and prepare the final master.

  31. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  32. A: I’m inspired by musicians and producers who focus on emotion, musicality, and clarity rather than simply making a track loud. I especially appreciate productions where the vocals, instruments, and arrangement work together naturally.

  33. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  34. A: Always make your mix decisions in the context of the whole song. A sound that seems impressive on its own may not work well with the rest of the production. Listen to how every element supports the song as a whole.

  35. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  36. A: My strongest skill is mixing vocals and music together in a balanced way while maintaining clarity, emotion and natural dynamics.

  37. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  38. A: I work with a software-based mixing and mastering setup using a professional DAW and a wide range of audio processing, EQ, compression, saturation, reverb, and mastering tools. My focus is on careful listening and making precise decisions for each song.

  39. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  40. A: The most common work I do is mixing and mastering songs. I focus on creating a clear, balanced, and powerful mix while preserving the original character and emotion of the production. I also work on vocal editing and tuning when needed.
