I produce, record, mix, edit and design audio. I write music in several genres and I am a perfectionist when it comes to delivering quality audio files.

In the early stages of my career, I was mentored by several famed music producers and audio engineers and worked at some of the top studios in the country.

My studio houses industry-standard recording, mixing, editing and music creation equipment. All audio I create is made in an HD environment using professional recording studio equipment.

Professional, great advice, and a man with vision, to help bring your vision to life. Joel is able to bring, not only high level of skill in tracking or mixing, but to lend input in production, writing, and new Sonic landscapes when needed.

Killer sounds!! Joels’ mixes have a ton of weight, depth and clarity, crank it up on a good system and you forget that you’re a band on a budget. He’s very personable and makes you feel like you’ve been friends for a long time, which goes a long way in getting the best performance out of you. If you’re a band looking to step it up, I wouldn’t hesitate recommending Joel to you.

I've worked with Joel several times and the experiences have always been first-class. He genuinely cares about musicians and knows how to help them realize their potential. He always has great ideas in the studio, but never forces his opinion on anyone; collaboration is a very fine line to walk, and Joel walks it better than anyone! You won't regret working with him.

I’ve known Joel for a very long time. I wouldn’t be half the musician or producer that I am today without him. Just don’t ask him to make you a coffee ;)

Joel is the whole deal :) You don’t just get serious level skills, years of studio pedigree and production/engineering chops that are as professional as they come, but he’s a sweetheart to work with and happy to regard him as a friend :)

Joel is a pleasure to work with. I have recorded with him as a member of a band and as a solo artist. He is professional, fast, and fun to work with. I particularly love recording vocals with Joel, he makes you feel comfortable, and has a great sense of vocal production (harmonies, and layers). I highly recommend him.

Working with Joel is to this day one of the best memories of my life. Personally, he’s a great person, father, husband, and I’m happy to have him as a friend. Professionally, he’s an incredibly talented and accomplished producer/engineer. I urge anyone to lookup the album we recorded together - Westpoint - Goodbye Rocket on ITunes. Joel is amazingly efficient and resourceful in a studio. He’s always one step ahead and knows how to get exactly what you’re looking for, or in moments of doubt, his creativity is limitless to bring something amazing to the track.

Joel is an award winning music producer and an amazing guy to work with. His knowledge of music combined with his creativeness always adds so much more to the music. He works fast and has always stayed within the prearranged budget. Top that off with he is a great person too. 5 stars all the way for Joel Kazmi as a music producer.

Interview with Joel Kazmi

  1. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  2. A: ProTools 2018 with UAD Apollo 8 interface. Entire suite of UAD plug-ins, entire suite of Slate plug-ins, entire suite of MCDSP plug-ins, various other plug-ins and soft synths. Mics by Neumann, Wunder Audio, Royer, Sennheiser, AKG and Shure. Instruments include Gibson, G&L, Warwick, Marshall, Ampeg, 3 Monkeys and Blackstar.

  3. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  4. A: SUM41's All Killer No Filler. The record turned out great, sealed the band's career and I got to work with producer Jerry Finn and all of his outrageously cool and abundant gear! Role: engineer.

  5. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  6. A: I freelance from my studio.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Depends on the project. Both have their pros and cons. Definitely not analog when it comes to editing! ;)

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: That I bring the same skillset to every job whether it's a major label or an indie project.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I get to listen to music all day and discover new artists.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: What genres do you work in and what are your fees? Answer: all genres and fees depend on the project's funding and scope of work.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That it's not a job it's a hobby because music making is not work right?

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What is the scope of work? Do you have any demos? When do you need it done? What is your budget?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Choose me?

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Depends on what I'm recording on a desert island. If it's truly deserted, then there would only be nature sounds in which case I'd bring a parabolic microphone, a zoom recorder, lots of batteries, a beach umbrella and a cooler.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: A failed rockstar like everyone else behind the console LOL. I've been doing this for 20+ years.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: I try to find ways to be different. Sound design meets music when the project allows for that type of creative freedom.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Trent Reznor, the man is a genius when it comes to music production. I think I could learn a ton from him. A record credit is just letters on a piece of paper or on a webpage, watching and learning from people like him is what I live for.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: When it comes to getting good sounds, it's not about the gear in the studio, it's about the musician and THEIR gear. A seasoned studio player is VERY different from a live player. Start with a great player and great instruments and the rest is easy!

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Mainly all genres of rock, pop, country, EDM but I have experience in jazz, classical, R&B, hip hop and metal.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Troubleshooting both on a technical and creative basis.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: 20 years of experience behind a console or a DAW in some of the best recording studios in North America. I also bring a musician's perspective being one myself. As a producer, I bring an objective ear to the song's strength and feasibility in today's music market. I help remedy any issues that may be present with respect to the aforementioned.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: Depends on the job. Mixing: 1) Check labelling! 2) Look for notes in comments from producer 3) Do a faders up mix and listen to the interplay of all parts of the song 4) Mix Production: 1) pre-production 2) production Recording: 1) Get direction from producer 2) listen to the instrument in it's acoustic environment 3) get sounds based on producer's description

  39. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  40. A: Trent Reznor, Kevin Churko, Nigel Godrich, Chris Lord-Alge

  41. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  42. A: Music production, recording, mixing, editing.
