Chicago Bob on SoundBetter

Award winning 5 star creator of original music with a unique ability to create music that matches the intent and feeling of the lyrics/vocals. Bob creates great melodies and provide instrumentals tracks that can include a piano, drum, bass, guitar and a string/pad/lead instrument and will work with the vocalists to put a great whole song together

The typical feedback Bob gets is that his songs and productions capture the intent of the project and are reflective, contemplative and beautiful. He tends to be more of a country/pop/indie/worship/rock ballad mid-tempo writer but also enjoy creating chill, EDM , New Age and music that can work on orchestra soundtracks, meditation, corporate and other sync projects.

Early during the developmental process Bob will send a draft version to make sure you are on the same path and/or adjust accordingly to insure complete client satisfaction. Bob use some amazing voice synthesizer AI technology that will help create a vocal demo of a melody idea (for no additional cost) to use with your final singer of choice.

If you need lyrics Chicago Bob can provide that service too, If you need production of the entire song Bob can hire the singer, final mixer and any other services you may need to complete your song project.

Bob has always worked on the music side, in studios, of the songwriting continuum and has used this site for some amazing collaboration on his original songs--you can listen to the latest song More of Me below as one example of a song with a lot of commercial success.

For those new to the music business Bob also provides coaching and help in getting your songs distributed and played.

Bob, you have been more than helpful to me. You’re clearly very knowledgeable of the industry and are very talented as well. I’m very grateful for you taking a lot of your own time to provide me with tips and resources to get started in the industry. I look forward to working together.

Chicago Bob is an exceptional artist and great to partner with. I couldn't have asked for a better outcome for my song. He created instrumentals so beautiful that a well-known singer told me how much she likes the melody/music. In the end, after vocals were added, he polished my song off and made it more beautiful. He is dedicated to putting together sounds that capture meaning and feeling.

Working with Chicago Bob has been a great experience. He was patient, communicative creative.
He tried couple styles on my songs and sent to me for my input. He had no issues changing or reviewing his concepts until I was satisfied. I was not in a rush for my project so I made him understand that. He was encouraging and had offered to give me some tips that will be important to my career growth as a musician.

Would definitely work with him again.

I trusted Bob with my song and was rewarded with beautiful music that enhances the lyrics.  The rhythm moves me to take some words to new places.  I couldn't have asked for a better outcome.
It was a joy working with Bob---we were able to support each other's creativity.  Communication was clear throughout.  It was a pleasant experience  with zero stress.  I hope he continues doing this work because I have more songs in the works that will need music.

Chicago Bob is an amazing songwriter . I needed lyrics to my edm dance track and he wrote an amazing song that fit the vibe I was looking for. He also sent me a reference vocal track. He has taken my track to the next level with his creative song writing experience and even recommended a vocalist that fits the sound of my track. Will definitely be working with Bob again for my projects

  7. Review by David B Sellers Sr

Bob is a master at his craft. His gift and vision always enhances and teases the music around my simple words as a Lyricist. Without that kind of quality, my lyrics would merely be words that rhyme and wouldn't have the sense of fullness that resonate and creates beauty in songs.

His diligence and interactions on my project were commendable, and I appreciate his efforts on many levels. His correspondence during the entire process was exceptional, and he delivered some lovely music for my song. Thank you Chicago.

  2. A: Starting songwriting and using computers with midi in 1985

  3. Q: How would you describe your style?

  4. A: Contemplative and engaging

  5. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  6. A: Let it come naturally --fine the zone of "flow".

  7. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  8. A: Country and ballads, slow rock, indi-pop and instrumentals

  9. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  10. A: Developing pretty melody for existing lyrics or for instrumentals

  11. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  12. A: I love country, rock and pop/rock ballets, new age-chill and old school RAP/HipHop

  13. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  14. A: Two years ago I created a song for my best friend, who died just after he had a second baby. His wife was over at my house and said I miss him more, not less, since he's been gone. I thought that was a perfect song and began writing words and a melody and then a production and had it completed here with a singer and mixer. Gave it to the family for Christmas--there wasn't a dry eye in the room. This is that song

  15. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  16. A: Several original songs that I want to submit to PG Radio; I won the top 40 songwriters in 2019 and got a lot of free music tools. Would like to win again in 2020. I am also working creating music for a client that has lyrics and needs original music that fits the intent of the song.

  17. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  18. A: I have used several and recommend: Mella, Erika Rehn

  19. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  20. A: Digital --easier more mobile. Somethings like harmonica, mandolin are analog because I can't replicate it weill digitally

  21. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  22. A: 100% guarantee. If they don't like it I will fix it

  23. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  24. A: Creativity and the results a song has on the customer when they hear their song come alive

  25. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  26. A: There are two types-- one the business side about rights to the song. The other about timing to get the project done. The third is do you think you can make this song magical

  27. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  28. A: That this is easy

  29. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  30. A: Do they have a vision of what they want the song to be? What style? What is the purpose? Is there a singer? Is there a time limit for the song? When is the project due? What is important to you? How much do you want to be involved in the process?

  31. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  32. A: listen to the demo songs they provide and see if they have the style you are looking for. read their bio to see if their musical interests meets the needs of your project. Everyone wants to be hired but I wouldn't be a good choice for types of music that I don't like or listen to

  33. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  34. A: Piano, Computer with Logic Pro, Acoustic Guitar and Harmonica, any mic

  35. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  36. A: Ryan Tedder. Great songwriter and performer John Lennon Neil Young

  37. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  38. A: My music helps people visualize the song when the hear the words and listen to the tracks

  39. Q: What's your typical work process?

  40. A: If there is no lyrics to begin I start with cords, build song structure and tempo and them right melody to the chords. When I have lyrics I start with the melody and then create tempo and chords and structure. When I don't have a project I just play random chords and melody to see what happens. I am always recording to make sure I don't miss that magic when it happens

  41. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  42. A: Running several MacBook Pros and a MacMini as my computer all running logic pro --use iPad mini as a controller.
