All about the vocal and the vibe. Multi-instrumentalist Composer and Mixing Engineer working in the industry since 2008. I work internationally on your mixing projects, record in pro studios around the UK and regularly work on location in grand acoustic spaces such as Birmingham Symphony Hall.
In 2008, I established Silent City Recording Studio in Leeds and became renowned for an organic and rich production style that promotes the artist’s unique sound. As a trained musician myself, I draw inspiration from my eclectic background in Classical music, Jazz, Blues, Pop and Metal.
Because of my hugely diverse taste in music, I absolutely love working on soulful pop, old school hip hop and choral (classical and contemporary). I also thoroughly enjoy working on technical and progressive metal and grindcore genres, which shares a lot of production techniques when working on nasty and heavy or aggressive sounding EDM and DnB. Shoegaze and ethereal black metal is also fun!
I love to work with indie artists, music professionals and businesses alike to create bespoke musical art, with a passion for pristine audio production.

Interview with Rob Hobson
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Playing guitar and singing in bands, touring, then moving into recording, engineering and mixing in 2008.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Chill.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Artists that are as serious about their craft as I am about mine. Collaboration and surrounding yourself with like-minded professionals is the key to success.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Think about how you want the end product to sound before you press record!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop, indie, hip hop, metal.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Providing exactly what my clients request.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: My compositional training can add an extra harmonic depth and dimension to take your song to the next level.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: For mixing projects, typically you send me stems for the song. I return a mix for you to hear, typically in 2-3 days. Albums are usually returned within 10 working days. After I've heard back from you, we fine tune the sound with mix revisions, if any are needed!
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I predominantly work in two separate locations: Hohm Studio in Bradford, a high end recording studio filled with boutique and vintage recording equipment, microphones and instruments in a professionally designed studio with dedicated vocal booth. The second space is my private mixing studio which is acoustically treated to a high standard and contains some cherry picked, high-end outboard from my extensive experience.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Julian Lage, Bill Withers, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Bach, Boards Of Canada, Jens Bogren, Buster Odeholm.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mixing, bespoke sound design, composition, conducting instrumental and vocal recording sessions, hiring suitable session musicians for the project.
