Abbey Road Institute trained pro Mixing & Mastering engineer available to help take your music to the next level.
Professional mixing and mastering engineer that wants to make your musical vision a reality, sonically. I have great deal of experience working across a variety of genres from Hardcore Punk to Jazz and everything in between. I have spent many years recording and mixing in Bristol, UK before being lucky enough to spend a year learning and soaking up knowledge from the industries best at Abbey Road, London.
Aside from working from the producers side of the glass I am also an experienced musician with a degree in music performance and regularly compose and perform. This experience allows me to think from both the producers mindset and the musicians.

Corey is great. Ultra professional and more importantly, patient. He helped me get the vocals on my track where I wanted, even though I only gave him brief directions. I can see he's got a lot of experience. He also mastered my song. I would definitely work with him again.
When recording, you want someone who is patient, relaxed and trustworthy. Corey has all of these quality’s. I worked with Corey at Abbey Road, he made me feel comfortable enough to produce a quality of music I wanted. No hiccups, no problems. He’s funny too. 10/10 would work with again!
Had the absolute pleasure of working with Corey on a split ep that we recorded together a few months back at Abbey Road.
It was honestly one of the most comfortable and relaxed sessions I've ever done, everything was set up in no time at all, and the outcome was just perfect.
I can't recommend Corey's skills enough. If you get a chance to work with him, jump on it!!
Corey helped me finish the mixing of my first album as Twin Siblings. I submitted to him the (very) rough stems recorded on a small portable recording system and he was able to transform each and every piece given to him into something much richer than what was initially conceived. He approached every idea openly and creatively and was always open to feedback, no matter how fickle it probably sounded. I found working with him felt fruitful, exciting and creative, which is not something I've always experienced with engineers in the past.
Interview with Corey Carruthers-Bell
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I worked on an album where I was sent stems bounced out of a portable multitrack that were recorded quite lo-fi. Some stems required serious attention before even beginning to mix such as removing hiss, pops clicks etc. There was also a lot of editing to be done as a whole due to the origin of the stems. After mixing the songs sounded a million miles away from how they started and featured lots of radio play which put a smile on my face.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Do you accept Logic or Pro Tools files? Yes, providing you've checked that it works and that the audio files are in the correct place.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Calm and focussed.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would have loved to have been able to work with Prince because of how prolific a songwriter he was.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Listening to the artists needs, listening to the songs requirements and critical listening.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Yoad Nevo
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: A big misconception is that mastering is all about making the song louder. When in reality depending on the source material it normally involves a little more work than that.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What sound are you going for? Do you have a reference track in mind? What format and/or platform are you releasing on?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Listen to the tracks on the page and start a musical discussion.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Listen to track, listen to reference (if provided), get a rough balance, EQ, Compression, Reverbs, Special FX (if required), Print Mix.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Add sub to kick drums by creating aux with a signal generator on it with a sine wave frequency set so that it fits the track. Then use a gate after it side-chained to the original kick drum.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Most common work for clients is mixing and mastering. Although I do travel to record bands or artists and I also offer session bass recording remotely.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I like listening to lots of music and this job keeps my ears open at all times. I also like that I get to assist an artist/bands creative vision a reality.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: U47, SSL Buss Compressor, Neve Custom 75, EV RE-20, LA-2A.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring two mindsets to a song. One from a production and engineering perspective and another from a musicians. I like to think this benefits a song immensely as I can work closely with the artistic vision of the musician whilst maintaining a producers focus towards the final polished track.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: It all started with a Boss 8-track recorder in my early teens. I quickly started recording my own bands demos with it and some other local bands too. This would lead to purchasing a decent audio interface and I continued to record and mix my own projects and bands in the area and achieve better results than with the 8-track. As more time went by my ears and critical listening along with engineering ability developed and I started to achieve greater results without any formal training and instead of demos bands were now releasing my recordings and mixes. This would eventually lead to me being accepted at the Abbey Road Institute where all of my skills would be developed and refined by the industries best.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Honesty and dedication to your music. It will have my full attention.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Usually I find myself working with Alternative Rock bands and artists. However I have experience of working with lots of genres.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. Analogue gear sounds amazing but the plugins are pretty close sounding. Having the ability to utilise both means that you can have that analogue sound but with the convenience of digital equipment.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Currently running a hybrid setup with some choice analogue outboard and top digital plugins.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I find Prince to be a major inspiration due to the amount of work he released and the diversity of it. From a production side of things I am inspired by Andy Wallace, Brendan O'Brien and Andrew Scheps for mixing and or producing some of my favourite records.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Currently writing and recording an EP of my own in my spare time whilst mixing an EP for an Alternative Rock band.
