Interview with Scotty Grand
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Take your song as far as you can take it before you bring it over to me. That way I can see your vision completely in it's most realized fashion. Which will allow me to bring it to the finish line note only quicker, but with MORE of your original vision in the final version!
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Emotive and GRAND!
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: If you want to make a vocal take sound super intimate, up-close and "in the listeners ear", then try recording JUST that one word or phrase with a completely different setting on you pre-amp and over vocal chain. Let that spit sizzle!!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Rnb / Pop / Adult Contemporary / Folk / Hip Hop
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My voice and understanding the voices of others. How to capture intimacy on a mic. No matter the genre.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Magic and smart execution of that magic. Knowledge of over 30 years of professional production in multimedia formats.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I love to get all setup, upload my files, and get a plan of execution. I try to keep all things and files as clean as possible to ensure highest quality of delivery. I work off of inspiration to make sure the "vibe" is there on my takes though. So sometime I may need a bit more time to capture what it is I'm lookin for.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio consists of my Apple Tower, Glyph Hardrive, Apollo Twin, Shure SMB7, Yamaha Speakers, and two beautiful Arturia Midi Controllers. Flanked by my guitar, piano, flute, harmonica and Costa Rican pan flute!
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Really a big fan of David Foster, Pharell Williams, Quincy Jones, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston, Adele, Bruno Mars, Chopin, Pavoratti and Celine Dion.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I love to direct a project towards its greatest potential. My clients usually hire me to come in and tighten up all of the other working parts with, as they say, my "bionic ears". I also lend well to creating masterful melodies to someones already great lyrics. Or helping the lyric find more depth is that be the case as well.
