Interview with Esteban Tonetti
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been playing drums for 20 years, and I have been recording in my own studio for 7 years.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: For a clean drums sound I recommend tunning the snare and bassdrum to the tonality of the song, no much muffling and first procure to get the whole drums sound with only three mics (Overheads and kick drum for example), and then add other mics if it is necessary.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work on Pop music, rock, funk and fusion.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Generally I receive one track minus drums and another track with a reference (consolidated from zero), the BPMs or a MIDI track. Within 72 hs. I send back an mp3 with the take for revision (up to three times).
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I use Protools and Motu (up to 192.000 khz 24 bits); Neumman, Audio Technica, Beyerdynamic and Shure Microphones; API and Petrungaro Preamps; My Drums: Gretsch USA Custom (80's), Yamaha Maple Custom (90's) and Ludwig Oyster (60's). Cymbals: Zildjian, Sabian, Istanbul. Two sound proofing rooms.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I like staying focus on what clients need, achieving the best sound together.
