Interview with 1AMVibes

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: We can’t say too much, but we contributed to an up and coming rapper’s album as ghostwriters. We provided them with many different types of rap songs, some sounded like Drake others resemble hard rap. We enjoyed it because it was a bulk order and we had to really be creative in such a short period of time, but the artist loved the reference tracks so we were proud.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Currently we are in album mode so we’re working on a lot of songs.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: We are new on SoundBetter, but we look forward to making connections and networking.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital because we’re in a digital age and that’s what we were first introduce to.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: We promise to provide quality tracks, lyrically, flow-wise, and delivery. We will perfect your ideas.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: We like the experience of perfecting an idea for a client and creating a great song for them. Working with other artists and collaborating on their tracks is an amazing feeling.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Do we rap in Spanish? The answer is yes. Do we make our own beats? The answer is no. Is our original songs for sell? The answer is no.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: Certain clients want cheap prices but we provide fair prices. We do quality work always and respectfully our prices reflect such.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What do you want the song to be about? Is it alright if we use expletives? Do you have a beat, if yes can you send it? What type of style are you looking for? Do you have a particular artist we should look at for reference?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Come prepared with your idea because we specialize in materializing musical ideas. Even if it’s a small idea like a color or a feeling, share it with us. We love the experience of making music and getting it perfect for our clients.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Laptop with protocols installed, our mic, speakers, mic stand, and noise reducer.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: We recently just graduated college, but we’ve been rapping and making music for a long time. As far as being songwriters we’re a year and some change in our songwriting careers.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: People like to box us in the rnbass and trapsoul era but we make a wide range of songs. We would describe our style as very introverted and nuisance.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: We would love to work with Future or Post Malone or Ty Dolla Sign.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Don’t ever put out anything that isn’t perfect. If that means revisiting the vocal levels to adlibs or mixing then remixing, then that’s what must happen.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: We usually work in the genres of hip hop/rap, rnb, and pop.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Our strongest skill is that we can create great music. A lot of artists are good but don’t have the right words or sound or melody, that’s where we step in. We’re skillful writers. We a deep understanding of what sounds good paired with a fierce desire to approach songs boldly and differently than anybody else.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: We have mastered nuisances and I’m mastering the little things we can create and recreate sounds. We haven’t come across an artist’s sound we couldn’t recreate as songwriters. We haven’t came across a client with an idea that we couldn’t make happen, using originality and music techniques. We can rap, sing, and subtly maneuver in between both. We are musicians, so we understand how songs are put together and the keys and pitches that matches perfectly, but we’re also stylish. We like to add flare to our songs, runs and riffs if we’re singing and clever wordplay if we’re rapping.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: Depending on if the client wants us to find the beat, but once the beat is chosen we usually create the hook first. Once the hook is created we build the verses around the hook. If the client has a specific idea or subject they want to talk about in the song, we build the entire song around it, starting with the hook.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: We have full in-home studio including a Rode M-3 mic, a mic stand, pop filter, noise reducer, speakers and pro tools.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Some of the musicians that inspire us is Drake, Ty Dolla Sign, Post Malone, Future, Travis Scott, Frank Ocean, J Cole and Kendrick Lamar.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: We provide our clients with quality reference tracks in various genres such as but not exclusive to hip hop/rap, pop, and rnb. The reference tracks include adlibs, lyrics, flow, delivery, and depending on the request from the client, the beat. We have written songs in other genres like country, rock, etc but our niche is the former.
