Active producer, mixer, and Dove Award winning engineer in Nashville, TN. I work with many of the major labels in Nashville to help their artists realize the full potential of their sound. I specialize in taking ideas from a concept to full fledged, commercially viable master tracks through all phases of the production process.

Many people make the claim that they can provide you with a "professional" sounding mix, production, recording, etc. If there is an industry where the word "professional" has been devalued, overused, and misappropriated, it is the music industry. What exactly do we all consider to be a "professional" job when it comes to taking our music to the next level? Is it enough that one simply uses the word "professional" to describe what they do?

To me, a professional in any industry is someone who actually works and excels in that industry for their livelihood. My production, engineering, and mixing was honed early on by working side by side with some of the top producers and mix engineers that Nashville has to offer. It is constantly perfected by the work I do daily with major labels and their artists. When I say that I can give your song a "professional" sound, I'm not simply throwing around a meaningless word. I specialize in providing the sound that you hear when you download a song from your favorite artist, or hear their hit single on the radio.

No matter what phase of the production process you're in, I can help you attain the sound that so many promise, yet so few deliver.

Interview with Matt Arcaini

Analog or digital and why?
Both! Why do we always have to pick sides?
What's your 'promise' to your clients?
I treat all projects the same. From the biggest label artist to the startup indie producer, the same effort and care goes into all mixes.
What do you like most about your job?
Honestly, knowing that I helped someone achieve and exceed their vision for their project. The mix is SO important to the production process. I love knowing that I was able to take your track and make it sound the way you've always hoped it would sound.
What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
Do I also master? No. I do not. However, I work routinely with one of the best mastering engineers on the planet and can work with you on getting your finished mixes over to him!
What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
In general, a lot folks seem to use the terms mixing and mastering interchangeably. Make sure to learn the difference and know what a good mix and master sounds like.
What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
Don't get hung up on credits or what someone claims they've worked on. Use your ears. If you like what you hear, go with it. If someone says they mixed Drake but their mixes don't sound good, don't use them. If your next door neighbor mixes your track and you love it, keep using him.
If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A really powerful laptop loaded with PT and my plugins, my Focal monitors, Dangerous Monitor ST, my Apogee converters and a palette of Auralex. Hopefully there's a cave somewhere on the island where I can set up shop until the rescue team finds me...
What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
I've been tirelessly working at what I do since my first studio experience at the age of 16. I knew that moment that I wanted to work in recording studios forever. Haven't let up since then. 14 years later, I'm still going at it.
Which artist would you like to work with and why?
You.
Can you share one music production tip?
Less is more. I cannot stress this enough. Leave space. Pick great sounds to fill in the space you have to work with. Music has a finite amount of space you can fill. Be intentional with your productions and make sure you love your track BEFORE it goes to mix.
What type of music do you usually work on?
I've mixed almost everything. Except for maybe postalterntechnemocore. I don't even know if that's a real style of music...
What's your strongest skill?
I pride myself in getting your mix right. I want you to listen to it 10, 20, 30+ years from now and still be proud of everything we did.
What do you bring to a song?
The sound that you're looking for, but so many people seem to fall short trying to provide.
What's your typical work process?
You send the tracks. I mix the tracks. We talk about it. We tweak some stuff. Everyone leaves happy.
Tell us about your studio setup.
I have a personal mix room designed by Zac Marcengill of Audio Virtue. He's an acoustical engineer who has designed some amazing studios here in Nashville and all over the US. The room is the #1 most important piece of any audio process. I mix on Focal monitors through Apogee conversion in Pro Tools with some really great plugins and outboard gear.
Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
It's split pretty evenly between mix and production work. I'm often doing both on one project.
