I'm a songwriter, producer, vocalist and guitar player who loves to make music and collaborate with other musicians. I've been honored with numerous songwriting awards over the last few years and regularly collaborate with, and produce for, many of the rising stars in the LA music scene. I've been a playing guitar since the age of ten and studied classical guitar at California State University, Northridge where I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Music Industry Studies. Writing vocal melodies is my specialty but I can handle all vocal related needs (lyrics, tracking, tuning, comping, etc). I'm available to produce, mix and master, make beats, compose music and lyrics, sing and play guitar on your project.

I was looking for a musician to help me write a Christmas song incorporating the names of my crew at work and a friend recommended Ranen. We met up and knocked out a great song in an afternoon. The tune was a big hit at our Christmas party and I’ve since heard it played all over the studio.
Ranen wrote, produced and performed all the music for an animated TV pilot I produced, including two full songs and numerous music cues. He did an excellent job working within our story and adapted quickly to script changes. Everyone who’s seen the pilot has complimented us on the music. I definitely recommend Ranen if you’re looking for a songwriter/producer with a fresh, hip style.
Interview with Ranen
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been playing music for most of my life. I began recording music when I was fifteen and have been doing so for the last ten years. I majored in Music Industry Studies at Cal State, Northridge during which time I was working freelance as a writer, producer, and guitarist. Since graduating, I've worked as a writer for multiple record labels and continued my work as a musician full time.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My music is usually described as R&B, Trapsoul, or Dream Pop with heavy Hip Hop influence.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to write with Frank Ocean. I love his ear for melodies.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Adding one live instrument to an otherwise entirely electronic track can make a world of difference in making a song sound organic.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: My work varies from client to client but I specialize in R&B and Hip Hop.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Writing vocals (especially top-lines/choruses). Lyrics included
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a unique perspective on writing/composing as well as over a decade of experience. I've been told my voice has "unique selling quality".
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: That varies depending on the job I'm doing. I thoroughly enjoy the creative process and love to be involved in the early stages of writing as much as possible with my clients. That's typically followed by the production stage (tracking instruments, vocals, etc.) during which the recording is brought to life. That'd be followed by any necessary post-production work such as mixing and mastering to really make the song feel just right.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I'm constantly finding myself inspired by artists new and old alike. I grew up on groups like The Beatles who will never cease to inspire me. Some of my more current influences would be Frank Ocean, Anderson Paak, SZA, James Blake, Smino, Saba, Monte Booker, and many more.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Seeing as I'm a singer, songwriter, instrumentalist, and producer, my work varies quite drastically from day to day. Whether it be performance or production, I would say my most common type of work is helping my clients bring their musical vision to life.
