Michael Kight on SoundBetter

I am a seasoned and professional multi-instrumentalist producer with over 15 years of music experience. My work has over 10 million streams on Spotify and my music has been played all over the world on countless commercials and ads. I am confident that I can take your music to the highest level and make you something truly special!

I’ve been producing records professionally in Nashville for the last 9 years and I’ve had a lot of success in the sync licensing world as well.

I’m a multi-instrumentalist so I play everything on the track. I am a seasoned guitar player, keys player, and singer. I program drums to sound incredible realistic or super pop. Whatever the song requires. I also play bass on my records and can program a wide variety of instruments to fill the track and make it sound right!

I don’t stop until the song feels inspiring and sounds amazing.

Working with Michael was great! He worked really fast and is extremely talented. The song is the exact vibe I was going for. I'm looking forward to working with him again in the future.

Interview with Michael Kight

  1. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  2. A: I think what makes me unique as a producer is that I'm a singer and an artist also. I can think from a musician perspective, but also a singer/artist perspective. This makes it a smooth process cause I almost always understand what the artist wants.

  3. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  4. A: What artist would you say you sound like? What is your live show like?

  5. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  6. A: I love working with people and I will do my best to give you what you are looking for. Just reach out :)

  7. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  8. A: A guitar, an analog synth, a drum machine, a great microphone, and some great speakers.

  9. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  10. A: I've been singing since I was very young (4 or 5), and playing instruments since I was a young teenager. I got into recording when I got my first 8 track recorder at 15. Ever since I've loved it.

  11. Q: How would you describe your style?

  12. A: It's a mix of soul, r&b, blues and commercial pop.

  13. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  14. A: Adam Levine. It would be funny to work with him after being on his team on the voice. Full circle.

  15. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  16. A: Most of the time simplicity wins the game.

  17. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  18. A: Mostly pop. Or indie music with a commercial feel.

  19. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  20. A: I have a very strong ear for cool melodies and melodic parts.

  21. Q: What's your typical work process?

  22. A: I normally start with the essential groove or whatever the main instrument might be. If it's a piano driven song I'll start with the keys, if it's guitar driven I'll start with the guitar, etc.

  23. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  24. A: I record and produce with Logic Pro X. I record everything through my Universal Audio Apollo Twin Duo interface. I use JBL MKII 8in Monitors. I use an Akai Professional MPK 249 to perform all my piano, synth, and production midi parts. I use a bluebird large diaphram microphone for vocals and acoustic instruments. I play my custom Warrior electric guitar through a full pedal board of amazing pedals. My room is treated with a London Room Kit.

  25. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  26. A: I've always been a fan of John Mayer's guitar playing. Ryan Tedder is a great producer and someone I look up to. Also Pharrell is a great inspiration!

  27. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  28. A: Music Production. Creating the music based on their style and the direction they give me as an artist. I play a variety of instruments and I'm great at layering sounds and ideas.
