Interview with Caught In Joy
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I mostly do mixing and mastering for my clients. I can also track guitars through 16 different tube amps, a few cabinets and work quickly to find the right sound. I work from my own studio in West Hollywood. You will not need to wait for me to book the studio to start working on your project.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I really dig what Kevin Shirley is doing.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Vintage Trident 80C board with 32 channels + 24 busses, four Chandler Curve Benders, couple of 1176s, LA2A, Distressors, lots of 500 series gear
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I am a musician multi-instrumentalist myself, been in bands for over 20 years and have tracked, produced, mixed and mastered a few hundreds songs. This taught me a lot, especially to quickly grasp what client wants and to be able to shape the sound in a way he/she needs.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Mostly Rock and EDM.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Not to overuse any piece of gear and always trust your ear first.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I am almost 100% analog and use mac mostly as a tape machine and editing tool. All the other gear is 100% hardware analog which really shapes the sound in the right way.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Mixing and mastering for my clients (mostly rock or edm) and working on my own Rock instrumentals for the commercials.
