Kate Morgan on SoundBetter

UMPG signed topliner, vocalist and songwriter. Have extensive experience in the studio with grammy award winners and platinum selling recording artists. My songs have been streamed over a billion times, charted top 40 on billboard charts and released by platinum selling artists like the Chainsmokers. Would love to help bring your vision to life.

Demo vocals, topline and songwriting. I specialize in pop music, but am comfortable in r&b and urban leaning spaces as well. I've been a professional in music for 12 years. I started as a solo artist in Canada and toured with Sarah Mclachlan, Sheryl Crow, Erykah Badu and Warped Tour, had a #1 on much music, and numerous songs that charted on Canadian radio. About three years ago I transitioned into focusing on songwriting and have had an incredible experience working with some of the best producers and artists in the world, my credits include, The Chainsmokers, Illenium, Blackbear, Kiiara, DVBBS, Gryffin, Petite Biscuit, R3hab. I can topline and record vocals on existing tracks, help with melodies or lyrics on demo's or record vocals to existing songs.

Generally when I'm working to track I send back an initial "scratch vocal" of melodies and lyrics within a week, we do any edits or changes you have and then I send back a final vocal with background vocals within 3-4 days. My rates are $1000 for full topeline and vocal/back ground vocal. Vocal available for release but I am not available for credited features at this time. One round of edits. $100 per additional round.

Would love to hear from you. Click the contact button above to get in touch.

Kate was so much fun to work with! I feel that we got something very special with this project. She’s a very talented topliner and songwriter and she nailed the demo first time around. Knew exactly what tone and vibe fit the track. Would love to work together again!

Don't let the lack of reviews fool you, Kate is fantastic. A great singer and one of the best writers I've worked with.

Interview with Kate Morgan

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I love the Chainsmokers song I was apart of "Hope". I wrote it with two good friends and it was a super real and personal song for us. I'm proud of those lyrics for being so raw, and Winona sang it so beautifully! it's been incredible to see it being played all over the world!

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I'm working on an artist project to be released this summer!

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Not currently

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Analog, I mean not to sound like a grandpa but don't you just feel it different?

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: To be friendly and professional, inspired and hardworking!

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I love being able to help someone bring a vision to life and create something they're proud of. I really hope that the people I work with can't wait to show the music we make to their family and friends and put it out into the world. From there I love to see this vast connection of emotion through music. I feel immensely grateful knowing how many people have taken comfort in the words and melodies I wrote in challenging times.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: They usually ask me about my process and I'm always open and communicative with them. If I receive questions about edits or I do my best to understand how the part could be improved, through asking for more references or providing examples and make changes accordingly.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That the process is the same everyday, sometimes it takes an hour, sometimes 12!

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: Do you have any ideas or guidelines for lyrical content and melodies? Do you have any references? Is there any topics I shouldn't touch on?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Be open with me about all your ideas! It's always great to have an understanding of how the client see's the song ending up conceptually or mood wise. I love to know peoples inspiration and emotion behind their tracks it's really inspiring!

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Obviously a mac book, mic, keyboard, guitar, apollo?

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I've been working in music for 12 years, I started as an artist and had some early success in my home territory of Canada. I was lucky enough to tour with artists like Sheryl Crow and Erykah Badu and live my teenage dream by going on Warped Tour. Things didn't work out with my team at the time and I decided to try and re-establish myself as a songwriter and moved to Los Angeles. Things haven't always been easy, but I have somehow managed to survive this long through relentless hard work and community and I'm really proud to say I received my first platinum and gold records this year with DVBBS/blackbear and The Chainsmokers and my first radio number 1 in Germany with Lena and Nico Santo's.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: pop or indie pop, r&b undertones.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I don't know if I need to work with any artists specifically, I just want to write truly great music with great people and have it reach the masses.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Simple is better!

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: EDM, pop and r&b but I work on EDM tracks the most remotely.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Creating emotion through music

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I'm passionate about every song I'm part of. I've been writing songs as a professional for almost a decade and I believe my experience is evident in my work.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: Once I'm sent a track I usually spend a day or two listening and collecting melody ideas. Then I go through them, pick the strongest ones and begin to piece together a concept and lyric. Once that's done I record a scratch vocal to send to the client and address any changes or edits they have then go back and record a lead vocal and background vocals.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I record on a shure sm7b, through logic.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I'm inspired by a lot of modern music like Billie Eilish, Rosalia, and Koffee, and superstar songwriters like Julia Michaels. I of course have my favourite oldies too, like Fleetwood Mac, and Queen.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Toplining (melody and lyrics) and vocals (lead and backgrounds). I usually work by being sent an existing track and working with the producer to create a complete song with a vocal that is ready for release.
