Working with Thomas is like that:
You receive a demo that you would have never imagine that it could be that great. I was stunned and it knocked me out of my socks.
Additional to that Thomas delivers really fast and is open to any Feedback. I would not recommend to work with Thomas so he has more time to work with me.
All the best.
Best wishes - check_circleVerified

Thomas is the best -- quick, strong mixing and production sensibilities, and communicative. He's fantastic to work with and I'd do it again a thousand times. Can't recommend enough!

Great to work with and the result was fantastic. Thomas didn't drastically change my original vision, just did what was needed to make it the best version it could be. I almost had no changes to suggest on the V1 first pass. Awesome experience!

Interview with Thomas Hesry
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I recently worked on a Flume-ish track that I'm really proud to have been able to rework as a Music Producer! The result is just amazing and the client was over the moon!
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm currently working on finishing a few tracks for Music Libraries which is a domain I've recently discovered and that I'll definitely explore further in the coming years.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I'd absolutely recommend AiR APPARENT which is an artist I worked with and that makes great electronic music!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital because of the ease of use it offers. I like just having to drag and drop plugins / sounds to lay down my ideas the quickest way possible.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My 'promise' to my clients is that I'll do everything in my power to get the most of their ideas, and that until they're entirely satisfied with the end result.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The thing I love the most about my job is the ocean of possibilites music making offers. I really can never get tired of this!
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: The most common question I'm asked is how they should send me their project and my answer is usually: Stems (for mixing / mastering sessions) or Ableton project if possible for Music Production.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: People often think that I'm only a DJ! I think there's still a lot of work to do to educate people on the entire ecosystem of music making :)
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I usually ask for reference tracks first, which is essential to pin-point exactly what his expectations are.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Make sure that you know what you want from the get-go, that way we’ll be able to maximize our efforts and get the best out of your ideas!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: I would definitely take my electric guitar, my laptop, my soundcard, my microphone, and my headphones!
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been introduced to music making / playing at a very young age (10 to be precise) by my parents. I'm mostly self-taught and I played guitar in Rock bands at the time, which has led me to play in renowned concert halls in Paris at 17. I then discovered EDM in my college years and started DJing in parties. Music production came pretty soon after that; I was sucked into this rabbit hole and never came out of it! I started a few projects before hopping on my current one, 'Maazel'. A collab I was a part of racked up millions of plays in 2016 and that really started my career. Since then, I released on Monstercat, Dim Mak, Proximity, played in direct support of huge names such as Dillon Francis, Illenium, and I recently performed at Lollapalooza Paris 2022.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I mostly write emotional and energetic electronic music. I don't attach myself to one specific genre but if I could quote a few, I'd say Future Bass, Trap, House, Drum & Bass, Pop,...
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: As I mentioned previously, Skrillex is a huge inspiration for me. Working with him would be a lifelong achievement for sure!
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: If you want to spatialize things in your mix, try to remember that each element needs to sit in its own space (EQ band, Panning, Strereo width, etc). Try to imagine that your mix is in a room and you have to place each instrument in that room. That way, you'll guarantee that sounds clashing with each other will be minimized.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work on Electronic music (mostly EDM or a blend of sub-genres) but I've also worked on more Pop oriented tracks as well.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I think my strongest asset is that I have a deep understanding of music in general (whether it be song structures by genres, which sounds to use, etc). I know exactly what I like and what I don't like and I pay extremely close attention to the curation of the best sounds possible.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I mostly bring my vision and my taste which most clients that are reaching out trust me for. Each song is unique and needs something different in order to get the best out of it and that's what I really like with this job!
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I initially try to pinpoint as much as possible what the client wants (asking for reference tracks / an audio moodboard is really important), that way I know I'll be able to deliver the best result possible while satisfying his expectations. I don't stop until the client is satisfied with the end result!
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio setup is fairly minimal and inexpensive but I like it that way and I don't think I'll ever need more. I know my gear and that's all that really matters in order to make quality music! I have 2 Yamaha HS8, 1 RØDE NT1-A mic, a Beyer Dynamics DT 770 Pro headphones and 2 guitars. All very reliable gear.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: My number one inspiration for music is Skrillex. He has single-handedly changed the course of my musical taste when I was younger and allowed me to explore the world of electronic music! I've always been impressed by his skill to adapt to any genres while still keeping his signature sound.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I mostly work on mixing, mastering and music production for my clients. Those are the domains in which I thrive the most, so I'm really content with that!
