creative but clean mixes and unique production
I’m a Cologne based Audio Engineer and Music Producer. I got into producing music and engineering almost 10 years ago. I decided to start this as a professional career in 2016 by visiting SAE Cologne. Since then I’ve been able to work on various projects like recording Artists, mixing and producing music, producing music for visual advertisement, dialog processing and Sound-Design for video games. (feel free to check my portfolio for references).
I like the variation in my work and facing different challenges instead of only working in one genre or field.
Offering High Quality Recording (Inclusive Rough Mix), creative Mixing, Vocal Comping, Audio Editing and unique Production & Sound-Design.

Interview with Benjamin Ullrich
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm currently working on a lot of complementary HipHop and alternative Pop.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Ain't no this or that for me. I like the color and character in analog but also the "surgicallity" and workflow the digital. I mostly use analog for Sounddesign and "uniqueness".
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What are inspirations, moods and references?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Make sure to send reference tracks and rough mixed version as well as stems/tracks as discussed. Please be open for ideas.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Laptop, UAD Interface, any Guitar, Juno 106, Slate ML-1
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been making music basically my whole life. I started by playing drums and guitar in bands as a kid / teenager and went from home producing my bands to making beats. After school I went to study audio-engineering at SAE graduating in 2018. Since then I've been freelancing working on various projects from producing artists, voice over productions and music for film.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: It always depends on what I'm working on, but it usually starts with referencing. Rather if it's a reference or rough mix, or a reference Song when it comes to production. Then I break down the Song in to sonics, parameters I like and that inspire me or directing room for improvement.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Alex Tumay, Mike Dean, Dez Wright, Jayson Joshua, Teezio, MixedbyAli, 40
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mostly I compose, produce, record, Vocal produce, mix and master Songs im my Studio. In sessions with artist as well as remotely. I also work in voice over productions from time to time and compose music for film.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I like the variety in my work. I like that every Artist, every song, every Session and every Mix is different and my day-to-day life doesn't get boring.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is warm and wide with punchy transients. In every song I'm looking for specific lines or phrases that can be featured to stand out a little more, to attach the listeners attention.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Use References and look for techniques in different genres and styles.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: When I first started I was working in Indie and Rock and switched into working on a lot of Hip-Hop and electronic music. Although I've been working on a lot of Afrobeats lately.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My setup is optimized for working in the Box with some analog keyboards and synth, live guitar and a few effect-pedals. I use a lot of UAD, Slate, iZotope, fabfilter and PluginAlliance PlugIns.
