I worked with Jamie on my last album and would recommend him to anyone. Fun to work with and definitely helps bring out the best in a track.

I have worked with Jamie on many projects over the years including many Barra MacNeils albums and videos. He brings a fresh attitude to work every day and is creative, efficient, patient and very conscious of bringing out the best in an artist or project. His engineering skills are top shelf and is comfortable tackling just about any project with ease. I would highly recommend Jamie Foulds on projects that require a veteran facilitator to bring out the best from all the individual players involved. Simply a gem of a person, time working with Jamie is always time well spent.

Jamie is an incredibly talented, professional and KIND music maker. He has extremely refined production, mixing and mastering chops, and has always gone above and beyond in every project I've had his help on. He takes every track to the next level, and is a pleasure to work with.

Jamie's talent in the studio is made clear by all of his work and awards/nominations as an engineer. What is not made clear by those awards and nominations is how talented he is as a musician (both vocally and instrumentally). If you were to ask anyone who has worked with him they would tell you that he is an asset in the studio both as an engineer and a fresh set of ears for your latest musical project. Furthermore, as someone who has spent weeks in his studio working with him, he is just a really, really great guy. And makes fantastic coffee. Highly recommended.

Jamie has produced a number of tracks for me remotely and I’m always surprised and delighted by the results. He not only gets what I’m going for but is always open to my ideas and feedback. Great guy and extremely talented.

I absolutely love working with Jamie!! He’s incredibly easy to work and incredibly intuitive and musically creative, easily capturing the feel and vibe of each song. He also communicates constantly with me as to what’s happening by text, email, and also works via Skype as well. This is very important to me as I live in Berkeley, CA. Most importantly though, I truly trust my songs with him which is a very big deal for me. I know that my songs are in very capable hands. I highly recommend him and have done several songs with Jamie. I keep coming back and you will too. He’s the real deal!!

Jamie is an incredible mixer, producer and musician. He works with you on all aspects of your tracks to ensure you are fully satisfied. If your tune needs a little extra help he works with you step by step through that process to correct and clean up your track. Easy going guy and great to work with. Highly Recommended!

I have spent a considerable amount of time with Jamie Foulds on 3 quite different records. Working with Jamie is easily one of the best memories I have in life. The creative process is so deeply enhanced by Jamie. Not only did I leave his studio with the music in my heart sounding even better than I imagined it could, but we also created new things which we never dreamed musically possible and Jamie was at the core of it. His talent and passion are unmatched, his leadership and support both unparalleled...he's my absolute first choice person to work with on any recording I ever get to do!

Interview with Jamie Foulds

  1. Q: How would you describe your style?

  2. A: I try hard not to have a style of my own, but to help facilitate and amplify the style of my clients. But, if pressed, I'd have to say that I like things that move people. Impact and emotion are what I'm interested in most.

  3. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  4. A: Get it right in the arrangement, not the mix.

  5. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  6. A: Communication... Oh.. and vocal production. Lots of folks end up working with me because of what I do with their vocals.

  7. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  8. A: I try to bring a production style that supports or amplifies the intention or emotion of a song.

  9. Q: What's your typical work process?

  10. A: I like to listen closely to your work tape, talk about the lyrics and discuss production references that give me a direction to head off in.

  11. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  12. A: I mix in ProTools. 100% in the box now. My front end is mostly classic designs from Neve, API and Focusrite. My control room is a well designed, critical listening space. I mix on ADAM A77x midfield monitors.

  13. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  14. A: I'm inspired by a lot of creative people, but Greg Wells and Andrew Scheps are definitely stand outs to me.

  15. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  16. A: I try to help my clients find their own sound through experimentation. I think it's important that I don't put my signature on a production but, rather, amplify that of the artist.
