Delmar on SoundBetter

I want to produce your next record, play on your album, Mix/Master that song you're so proud of. Let's get the ideas in your head and make them a tangible recording you can share with your fans. I'd be honored to be a part of your story and make something we can both be proud of!

Hello SoundBetter! I'm Christian. I spend most of my time producing for my own project, and making records with artists I really believe in.. As an artist, I know how it feels to have the need to get your songs out into the world and tell your story in a way that feels true to you. I'm so excited to be a part of SoundBetter and being able to connect with you!

Best,

Christian

Christian is amazing to work with! He works quickly and efficiently, is professional, and great at what he does. With my song “Lose Control” he brought my vision to life, creating exactly the sound I wanted. He is full of creative ideas and I will be working with him more!

Christian produced my first single and absolutely floored me like I knew he would. Christian's ear for the potential of a song is what made my single what it is today. He's an incredible musician as well so he was able to really love on the song in whatever area it needed. I can't wait to work with him in the future!

Christian is a fantastic guitarist and songwriter. He has recorded guitars on several of my productions and always nails it. He truly understands how to convey emotion through the guitar and delivers every time.

Christian has produced 5 songs for me over the last few years and has really taken my music to a new level. I used to produce my own stuff, but was never really happy with the outcome. Now, I send Christian my vocals and guitar tracks, we discuss the sound I'm looking for, and we collaborate back and forth as he works his magic. He's super humble, incredibly creative, and easy to work with. I've gotten so much positive feedback from my music since working with him. I highly recommend his work as a producer, musician, and mixing engineer.

Such an incredible talent to work with! Christian played in and produced two songs for Calvary Music. He was such a professional. We are already planning future projects to collaborate with him on. He had a way of bringing our vision to life like no else I’ve ever personally worked with. Highly recommended!

Interview with Delmar

  1. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  2. A: I love being able to merge both digital and analog recording mediums. I believe it shouldn't be either or but actually both. The UA Apollo has been a key piece to my production setup, but I also run a lot of audio through my old Teac tape-machine and 70s Yamaha console, and all sorts of guitar pedals.

  3. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  4. A: I am extremely proud of my new album titled "War" that I am about to release. I have never been more excited and anxious to release anything else in my life because. So much sweat and tears went into the making of it. I was the writer, producer, and mixer.

  5. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  6. A: Working towards the release of my new full-length album!

  7. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  8. A: Phil Barnes, a producer from Nashville I recently had the absolute pleasure of working with.

  9. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  10. A: Both, who says we can't have the best of both worlds?

  11. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  12. A: I promise to be honest with them, and promise to try my very best to make the record of their dreams.

  13. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  14. A: I like the fact that I get to help people that are on the same boat as I am. I am an artist myself, so I know how hard it is to translate what is on your head to a tangible WAV file.

  15. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  16. A: Can we make this type of record? My answer is, why not?

  17. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  18. A: I think the biggest misconception is that producing music is some sort of magic and that it just happens easily. It takes a lot of hours of driving yourself crazy in a room for that "magic moment" to happen. And it never happens the same way twice.

  19. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  20. A: When do you need the project done by? Do you have any sort of reference to the songs you wanna make?

  21. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  22. A: I would say, know what sounds you like and develop a taste for sounds you wanna use or don't wanna use in your music.

  23. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  24. A: UA apollo, laptop, Juno synth, gretsch white falcon, Shure SM7

  25. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  26. A: I have been a musicians for 10 years, I started when I was very young and I went to school for music business and communications.

  27. Q: How would you describe your style?

  28. A: I would describe my style as sort of an old soul even though I am not old by any means. l mean in the sense that I love vintage gear and reminisce on 60s-80s songwriting and production.

  29. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  30. A: I would love to work with Ben Howard because he has been a huge influence for me. Not just songwriting, but also guitar playing like...come on, he is insane!

  31. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  32. A: Less is more. I think this term is so overused nowadays but It is one of the best tips you could ever give someone. To add to it, I would say making sure every element in the song is playing a part to build the song and not take away from it.

  33. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  34. A: I usually work on Alternative, Indie/Pop

  35. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  36. A: I think my strongest skill is melodic direction. Guitar is my main instrument and that is where I shine the most, but I think having a strong sense of melody can really build a song in any instrument.

  37. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  38. A: I think I bring honesty in a way. I believe music should make you feel something and take you somewhere. That can only happen if music has brought you somewhere. Not talking about "success" or anything like that but simply starting to understand what music really means to me and implementing that honesty into a song.

  39. Q: What's your typical work process?

  40. A: I would say my typical work process is always listening first, and then identifying what the song needs.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I have always been inspired by musicians and music professionals who are willing to take risks. Some of them would be "Bon Iver" who I've always admired because of his strong sense of direction in his productions, and the band "The 1975", who never really follow the "trend" because they are making the next one.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: The most common type of work I do for my clients is producing, mixing, and guitar parts.
