Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

A: Yes, I work very closely with Top Floor Studios. If I'm doing a recording, that's the place I'll go. When I was the studio assistant, the owner Jakob Herrmann taught me everything there is to know about producing/engineering and is a big part of the producer I am today.

Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

A: I have been recording and mixing for the last 12 years and been doing it professionally for the last 7 years.

Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

A: I work exclusively in the box in either Logic, Reaper, Cubase or Pro Tools. I use Adam A7x, Sennheiser HD650 and Audeze LCD-X as monitoring. I have used this combo for many years and I am very comfortable with it.

Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

A: I am extremely proud of working with Evergrey on their latest record called "The storm within". During the recording I got the chance to engineer and record the guest vocals of one of my all time favourite singers, Floor Jansen from Nightwish. It was a dream come true.

Q: Analog or digital and why?

A: Digital. I really like the ease of use. My workflow makes it easier and faster to get to where I want. But you can't beat the sound of a good analog compressor or EQ. I add that stuff when I'm recording. But a good mix is not about cool gear or great sounds. It's about balance and emotion. If you can get that, no one will care whether you used an analog or a digital compressor.

Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

A: I promise to do my absolute best to make my clients vision come true.

Q: What do you like most about your job?

A: To make a flat recording into a big and open mix. That's amazing all the time.

Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

A: That I do editing and occasionally magic. I can't magically transform a bad recording into an amazing mix. But I can make it good or at least better.

Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A: Don't rush your desicion.

Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

A: Computer, soundcard, microphone, guitar and keyboard.

Q: How would you describe your style?

A: Fat sounding and punchy.

Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

A: I would like to work with Blind Guardian becuse they have always been my favourite band.

Q: Can you share one music production tip?

A: Lower your listening volume.

Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

A: Rock and metal.

Q: What's your strongest skill?

A: I know what I want and how to get there.

Q: What do you bring to a song?

A: I try to bring as much energy and emotion to a track as possible. But everything depends on the song.

Q: What's your typical work process?

A: Organization of the project (color coding, naming of tracks, grouping, comping etc) Mixing drums first and vocals last.
