Interview with Mike Lawrence
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Every project I work on, I am very proud of. Being able to create something from start to finish and everything in between is not an easy thing so being able to complete is always a big accomplishment.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I am working on my own personal LP album which will be releasing Summer 2019
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I have not had the chance to speak to a lot of other SoundBetter Professionals but most are very good at what they do and have so much to offer.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I respect everything about analog but I do prefer the convenience and efficiency of digital.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Satisfaction or money back.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love everything about music so I love it all.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: How much do you cost? My answer will never be the same. It's very specific to each project.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Time. You cannot rush things if you want them done correctly.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: When would they like their project done by, if they could provide any examples of how they imagine their track sounding, and influences.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Do your research first, get in touch, and ask to hear some of their work.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: All I would need is a Guitar.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Music has always been the career path for me. I have been doing this for 12 years.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Post 2000's Punk Rock
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Any and All.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: The more time you put in, the better you will get. It's an art and there really isn't any true correct way of doing so.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I have the most experience in Pop Music, EDM, Electronic, Hip-hop, Rock, Rap.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Being a perfectionist. I am just as devoted to your project as you are. I am not satisfied until the client is.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Creativity and Originality
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My typical work process is getting familiar with the clients need and direction. I always start with vocal writing and melody. Usually I will start with the Chorus/hook, track the vocals and send over a few different demo tracks for the client to listen. Once we have agreed on the Melody I will write each verse and repeating the process.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I am inspired by originality and hearing new creative sounds. Right now One Republic, Halsey, NF, and Banners are who i've been listening to the most.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I do a lot of Top-Lining vocals for producers, especially EDM, Electronic, Pop, & Hip-Hop
