Julian is one of the most inspirational and professional producers that I've worked with. I'm super happy with the end result, and thrilled that I was able to work with a producer who has a hit song featuring Snoop Dogg and the #1 DJ in the world. He made my track sound 10x better than I could have ever made it. Definitely recommend!!!
Interview with Julian Banks
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm working on my next release featuring Selena Gomez.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: The track with Snoop Dogg, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, and Bassjackers. I brought Snoop, created the initial track, and then brought together DVLM and Bassjackers to the song. I'm proud of this because it represents one of the first big room electro track with a top rapper. We premiered it at Tomorrowland and that made it even more special!
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I'm currently working with many SoundBetter clients and super happy that this platform exists!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. I use analog and digital throughout my workflow. Analog sound better and digital is more efficient.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Complete satisfaction. We will work together and make something that you love.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Playing music everyday and inspiring others.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: How far can the song go? As far as we can take it together! I'll pitch it around to all of the labels, agencies, etc.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: The more tracks you have the better the sound. It really comes down to the core idea and then building off of that.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I like to find their goals and then work toward accomplishing them!
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Bring your passion to the project and let me know everything you'd like to accomplish!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: 1. Guitar. 2. Laptop. 3. Headphones. 4. Externals with plugins. 5. Piano.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been playing viola since the third grade, and I've worked at Creative Artists Agency, CHROMA, Music and Motion Productions. I've worked in every facet of the music community and honored to be part of great records!
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Everything from EDM to hip-hop, country, and rock. I like to combine styles a lot!
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: John Mayer. Able to craft pop songs as well as obscure and complex guitar works. One of the best out there!
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Develop your workflow in order to have a more automated approach, which will give you more time for your ideas.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I love everything from film music (our company creates many of the top film trailers and scores in the industry) as well as electronic (the founder of Glitch Mob is at our studio) to acoustic albums.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I started playing Viola at a young age, and progressed into guitar, piano, etc. My studio houses award-winning film composers as well as electronic producers, which gives me a dynamic approach to most of the releases I work on.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I've worked on both sides of the spectrum - at the top talent agency, Creative Artists Agency, and as a producer for A-list talent. I'm able to create songs with clients, and then help them pitch their ideas to publishing companies and talent agencies to take it to the next level.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Mac Pro 8-Core 3.0Ghz, Macbook Pro laptop. Outboard Gear: Universal Audio UA-87, WAVES suite, Golden Age Pre-73 MKII, Slate Digital Microphone System, Apogee Ensemble, Sound Toys, Native Instruments, Spectrasonics... every plugin that exists. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I've had the pleasure of working with everyone from Snoop Dogg and Kanye West to Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and The Bassjackers. I love collaborating with likeminded musicians who are efficient and able to materialize their ideas in a different but familiar way to listeners.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I'm comfortable building complete songs from a client's core idea, integrating sound design elements, and crafting melodies and arrangements. Anything you need I've got you covered.
