Interview with Vintique Sound

  1. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  2. A: Both. I mix in the box primarily because it's very easy to create automation and it's very easy for recall. Next, I run everything through a vintage Yamaha analog mixer to add a touch of analog character (various distortions and harmonics). This provides me with 16 channels of analog summing so that I can get the best of both worlds (the benefits of mixing in the box, with the great sounds that only analog gear can provide). Lastly, the mixer I'm using has a great sounding 4-band EQ that I find myself going back to time and time again, simply because of the sound I can achieve with it versus using a digital EQ in the box.

  3. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  4. A: The most common type of work I provide to my clients is to Mix and/or Master their recorded material.

  5. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  6. A: I have a Hybrid Mixing Setup. I mix primarily in the box and use a vintage Yamaha analog mixer to add color to my mixes. I'm inspired by vintage and modern mixing techniques so I've developed my setup to allow me to accomplish both vintage sounding mixes and modern sounding mixes. All of my mixes are done in a professionally sound treated environment and done on professional mixing/monitoring equipment.

  7. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  8. A: I usually work with Indie Rock bands, Singer-Songwriters, Deep House producers, and Techno producers.
