I have many tricks up my sleeve to make your productions sound tight, big, and professional, making your vocals perfectly in tune, and your instruments perfectly in time, without sounding edited! I have worked with and learned from the best in the industry, such as Three Days Grace, Billy Talent, Shawn Mendes, Drake, and many more.
INSTRUMENT EDITING
I have spent many hours with Pro Tools, and use very meticulous methods to ensure editing is clean and tight, without sounding edited. Guitars, Drums, Bass, Keyboards, anything you need put to the grid.
VOCAL EDITING
I have learned and developed a very natural way of editing vocals, to ensure great tuning and timing, while not sounding edited! I use a various combinations of manual edits, melodyne, autotune, elastic audio and Vocalign in my creative workflow to ensure the best results for your sound.
MIXING
If you need your vocals or guitar, etc mixed into an existing instrumental track, you can send them to me and I will make them fit perfectly! Contact for pricing of vocal mixing depending on your project, and get a deal If you use one of my editing services too.
If you need your whole song mixed, just send me the multitrack, and I will send it back sounding like perfection! For many years, I have worked on projects alongside the best engineers and mixers in the world, I know the techniques from the biggest names combined with my own methods and trained ears to ensure the best mix for your song that you and your listeners will love!

Alex really allowed my vocals to pierce through the song. I was having trouble hearing my voice through the other instruments, but with his help, I was able to gain the effect I was going through with my vocals, while maintaining a steady bass throughout the songs. I feel confident after my experience with Alex that he can help me complete my album. Very cool and professional!

Interview with Alex Krotz
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I get to make really cool music everyday, and see artists visions come to life!
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started out recording with a DAW in grade 6, before that only small tap recorders or maximizing voice memo recorders. In high school I built an isolated sound room and control room in my parents basement and opened a studio, I also started interning for a local mid level studio, where I worked my way up to engineer and worked with them for years. I then went to school for recording, before moving to Toronto and landing a dream job at a studio where I was for over 7 years working my way from runner to house engineer before going freelance.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: While I work on a wide range, my strongest and most passionate would be Rock and heavier music.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill technically is in Pro Tools, I have been the Pro Tools operator for many big records and artists, which comes with great urgency in quick workflow. Every time, clients are amazed how quickly I can accomplish what they ask for and nothing phases me, which greatly helps the production process.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Howard Benson, David Bendeth, CLA, Max Martin, Matt Squire, Robert Orton, Derick Wibley, Josh Wilber, Gavin Brown, Randy Staub, Gggarth Richardson
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I’ve worked extensively on both analog and in digital, in a lot of hybrid setups but also on tape/analog exclusively for some project. I find myself leaning more into digital due to the flexibility and ease of notes, recalls and travel with projects. If you know what you’re doing, digital sounds amazing and comparable to analog these days, but just easier.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My home production studio is a nice control room basically, my instruments, nice lighting for a creative vibe. Minimal gear on the desk since I’m mostly in the box in my own space to work fast and be able to travel with my setup. I tend to work out of various studios, big and small, when I need to work with clients in person, depending on their budget.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That when I edit, I edit it to the grid and it sounds lifeless. This is false, I do (typically) edit very tight to the grid, but I still keep the life in it and it doesn’t sound like a robot, people often think that will happen but are always very happy with the results.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Alastair Sims
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What genre is your song that you’re working on and what is the deadline you need it by.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: A production is all about the ease of creation and comfort of the artist, I try to bring that to a project whether in person of through the internet, bringing the highest quality work all the time so they don’t have to second guess anything I do.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I do a lot of editing such as drum quantizing or vocal tuning & timing. I’m very good at doing extreme editing on every instrument in a song, while making it sound polished, natural and not sounding manipulated. I also do a lot of mixing, and tend to do a bit of a creative mix approach to make the track flow the best it can in the mix.
