Interview with TK Toine Kruze
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: A project that I worked on that I am extremely proud of is working with Jazmen Safina on her newest untitled album. I had the honor of collaborating on several compositions on the to be released album, and also writing credits as well. To be able to work with such talented artist gives me honor, inspiration, faith, and belief in the talents that have been given to me!
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Personal Artist Album, Artist Portfolio for Songwriting
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: KYRIE, Wrist
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Analog if you have the means to do so because its a more quality sound. Digital is the normal sound of today, other than live bands recordings. Its not a bad sound but has rebotic distortion at times.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: That you will be satisfied with a great piece of artwork, and with even more great reviews from those who will experience art from your presentation of it.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I like the fact that I get to use my talent to help others complete a task that they couldn't do alone. The world is about community, honesty, and communication. I get to take part in all 3 when I am helping in creating music for my clients.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: How long will it take you to get this done? 1 day Can you rap and sing? Yes Can you give any suggestions on how we can make the record any better? Yes (Specific to each project)
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That this can be done over night. Ive dedicated my life towards refining a skill that has lead me to be qualified in these positions. Just like an athlete that has trained for years and now a top notch performance is simply muscle memory, the same can be said for singers & songwriters that has spent years studying and writing music and lyrics.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What do you want from you? In what time frame? How do you want the vibe of the track to be? Soft, chill, hype, club bounce etc.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Make sure that the service provider you looking to work with is what you actually need. Some people are diverse and can do a multitude of things well, but not great, and some people can do one thing great but not other things. Make sure the artist that your working with is honest and gives your project their full attention when it comes time to creating your final product!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Computer. Wifi hotspot signal. Keyboard, interface, Microphone.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: My career path is Music and IT. I've played in school band from elementary through high school. I've been coding and doing technical support for computers since high school
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I would describe my style as commercial, swave, melodic. Whether its RnB or Hip Hop, every piece of material that leaves this studio will be a HIT!
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Rihanna, because she is a quality artist who produces hits, comparable to Beyonce, and her Caribbean roots give her a unique swag and flavor that cant be cloned.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Quality is what prevails, Go back and rerecord, get opinions from outside perspectives, and refine you skills constantly .
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Hip Hop, RnB
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Melody
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring swag, structure, and flavor
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My process is different depending on the project that I am working on. I usually start by accessing what my client want from me, and what they already have present. From there I look to see how my contribution can make what is already there even better.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: The studio space that I work out of comes with 2 rooms of quality. "Studio A" & "Studio B" Studio A is designed more for detailed mixing specifics when it comes to audio recording. Studio B also has recording capabilities, but it geared more toward production and top lining and songwriting. All vocals recorded in "Studio B" will be transferred to "Studio A" for correct mixing
