Electric Eel Productions on SoundBetter

Hello fellow musician! My name is Adam Snyder – I’m a music producer and sound mixer. And like you I’m also a musician and songwriter. It’s my job and my passion to help you get the best sounding recordings of your songs. I work out of my home studio ‘Electric Eel Productions’ in Los Angeles, California.

I specialize in producing and mixing rock music in a retro 60's / 70's style. If this is your style of music or you would like to explore recording that style, then I'd love to speak with you.

Also I can track acoustic guitar, electric guitar, or bass for you if you need parts added to your existing song and / or create a 'comp' or composite of your best takes of any instrument.

I want to help make your songs sound great!

Tell me about your project and how I can help, through the 'Contact' button above.

Interview with Electric Eel Productions

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: The EP from the band "Hum & Hiss" - it was an amazing experience collaborating with other creative people and it sounds very retro 70's with a modern edge. I produced and mixed the 4 song EP.

  3. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  4. A: PRS McCarty electric guitar, Fender Super Reverb amp, Fender bass, Pro Tools, headphones (and electrical outlet!)

  5. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  6. A: I've been writing music all my life - recording and producing for 10 years, mixing for 5 years.

  7. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  8. A: Capture your recording the best you can at the source from a microphone and there shouldn't be much to EQ in the mixing stage.

  9. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  10. A: It's very simple - I use a Presonus Audiobox recording interface, M Audio MIDI keyboard controller, a couple of great mics and a few vintage guitar amps with Pro Tools 10. I tend to work best when I limit my choices, rather than having a million options.

  11. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  12. A: Re-recording retro songs of the 70's in a totally unique way - please listen to my version of The Cars "Just What I Needed."

  13. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  14. A: Not at the moment.

  15. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  16. A: Digital - it's the way I learned to produce and mix and it works great for me.

  17. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  18. A: That their song will not be done until they are totally satisfied.

  19. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  20. A: Working with other creative people that inspire me to always be the best I can.

  21. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  22. A: What DAW I use, what mics I have, how long it takes to record a song. My answer is - Pro Tools, Lewitt 540, Rode NT1A, Shure SM 57.

  23. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  24. A: That it's easy. It takes a lot of hard work to get a song to sound great.

  25. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  26. A: When do you need the song completed? Do you have a reference song? Who are your biggest influences?

  27. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  28. A: Make sure you have chemistry with your producer or mixer - it's a relationship that could last awhile.

  29. Q: How would you describe your style?

  30. A: A mix of retro 60's and 70's music with a modern flair.

  31. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  32. A: Paul McCartney - he seems to have an endless supply of ideas.

  33. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  34. A: Retro rock and roll that reminiscent of the 60's and 70's with a modern flair.

  35. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  36. A: Listening. Making absolutely certain that the song sounds exactly as the client intended.

  37. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  38. A: My dedication to the project - I don't release anything unless it's amazing sounding.

  39. Q: What's your typical work process?

  40. A: I begin by listening to either a demo song or a performed version by the client. Then I discuss with them their vision of the song and tell them how to best arrange it, offering suggestions on instrumentation and what my role will be - as I typically play all the guitar and bass parts. When we're ready to record, I make sure to do a number of takes, then will put together what I feel are the most unique parts of the track.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I've always loved the production from the old school guys like Eddie Kramer, George Martin, Todd Rundgren, Jimmy Page.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Most commonly I produce and mix indie artists on either a song-by song or EP type basis. I typically produce and mix each song and make sure it sounds amazing. I also get hired to record acoustic guitar, electric guitar and bass tracks remotely or in the studio.
