Interview with Mariana Cabot

Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I am writing the music for a musical theatre play. I am also doing the music arrangements for all of the songs.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise is to work until the client is happy.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Creating.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Electronic music. I also work a lot with songwriters.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Bringing identity into the production, making the artist sound as unique as possible.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring my creativity and how I perceive the artist.. what I believe is the essence of his/her work.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: The first thing I do is ask the artist for references. I always prefer to have a hint of where to go so I can work as close as possible to what the artist has in mind.

A: Ólafur Arnalds, Emeli Sandé, Glen Hansard, Alicia Keys, Benjamin Biolay, Bon Iver, John Legend, Tori Amos
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Most of the work I have done for other artist has been focused in arranging and producing their music. I have also been asked to work from scratch writing both the music and the lyrics myself.
