Interview with Justin Madill

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: Still working on projects out of Toronto with Eric and some of my own gigs

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: Short answer is both. They both are tools for making music and whatever gets you the sound you are looking for is the right choice

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: To make sure that they are always satisfied with the result and to work with them to make sure everyone leaves happy

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: I love getting to hear peoples music and the awesome creativity that is out there. Then helping them to get those songs and ideas into the best thing that they can be

  9. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  10. A: Started by taking school at Metalworks institute and from there was recommended by one of my teachers to Producer/Engineer Eric Ratz. Interned with him at a studio near Toronto eventually working my way up to assistant engineer and finally engineering on projects

  11. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  12. A: Usually working on rock or indie and everything in between

  13. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  14. A: Home setup is combination of an analog 2 mix and in the box plugins. As well as some nice Black Lion Audio B173 preamps going into an apogee converter for good quality recordings

  15. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  16. A: I'm either sitting behind the desk recording the artist or on the computer doing edits and other behind the scenes work
