Interview with Ohad Nissim Mastering
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. Analog for hands-on, Digital for comfort.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I will treat their project like it was my own.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Working with music, that was always my dream. Also, communicating and making friends with people from all over the world with a common interest.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Anyone can do it! you just turn knobs...
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Where do you want to go with your music? Are you happy with the mixes? How creative do you want me to be?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: I know from my experience as a music producer how hard the pursuit of quality can be. It is not easy finding an engineer you can put your confidence and trust in and create a fulfilling artistic bond. But you can try me.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Elektron Octatrack, Headphones, headphones amp, UAD Card. that's it.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Kanye West. One of the most creative and innovative producers in the music world.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don't go crazy over a mix, most of the work has happened during the production process. If you get something to mix, you don't need to change it completely, you got it because the artist/producer already likes the sounds or instruments they choose. Just balance it properly and make it sound like one unit.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: HipHop, RnB, and anything electronic music.. from ambient to Techno or Club music.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Creativity, I like to stir off the usual paths. I like to communicate, connect, I think it's a big part of the success of the collaboration between me and the artist.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Discussing with the artist/producer on their vision, listening to the music and giving mix feedback if requested. I will then clean the file, bring it to a comfortable level of work and run it thru my machines.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Fully analog setup, carefully chosen hardware pieces to match my musical taste. ATC SCM 100 ASL for monitoring, giving me all the details I'm looking for.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Skee Mask, Kendrick Lamar, 007 Shake, Kanye West
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Analog Mastering, Stems Mastering and Mixing project I feel connected to

Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: My own project under the name NISSIM. and Mastering daily.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Warmness, fullness, roundness. Adding extra depth and width, making it 3d feel.
