This is my first time working with White Sea Studio, and it was a pleasure. I've worked with big name mastering teams, grammy nominated engineers, and more boutique engineers. I enjoyed them all, however, sometimes you just need a little bit extra attention to detail and some added flexibility - White Sea Studio was flexible in working with different versions to make sure we get the feel right (good luck making minor mixing edits with a big studio without being charged an arm and a leg!). The end result is lovely and release-ready. Highly recommend!

White Sea Studio has been completely professional from initial contact to receiving finished masters.
I can honestly say it's been a pleasure.
Thus far every track I have submitted has come back sounding significantly better.
I have also received eq mixing tips on 2 tracks which enabled me to re submit those tracks with his eq edit suggestions.
This is customer service which, IMO goes above and beyond the call.
Kudos to the staff at White Sea Studio for making mastering my latest project a breeze.

    Wytse is the BEST.
He's extremely savvy, having road tested any plug-in you've ever heard of on his YouTube channel. He's constantly looking for something new to learn (and teach) in order to make his studio and process the best it can be.
Seriously, this guy's got his business honed.
And he's funny af, to boot!

Wytse is, flat out, one of the best in the business.
His technical knowledge is amazing and he addresses any problems along the way with patience and class. This is just a small sampling of the reasons why I use him EXCLUSIVELY for all releases my label puts out. If I am producing for someone outside of my label, I strongly urge them to use Wytse if they want their recordings to sound the very best they can.

Wytse has mastered two vinyl LPs for us and several singles, as well worked with a few of my colleagues on other materials. His ears and mind are amazing, bringing great skill to sorting out frequencies and textures. He's also quite intuitive and comprehensive when responding to concerns and revisions. A+ 100% work.

I've worked with White Sea Studio for 11 songs now, and Wytse is very attentive, reasonable, and patient. He will make sure to achieve your desired sound and will be positive even if you (me) are very critical and almost annoying with the level of detail you are looking for. His studio setup and his trained ear will get you your desired results, I cannot recommend him enough for anyone who takes their music seriously. Take your music to the next level.

For my first album i wanted to use an engineer I trusted, and since I am not in the industry (music is my side thing), I went straight to my favorite mixing, mastering, and "snake oil" testing guy from youtube.
I could not have been happier. we had an initial consultation to go over everything from my personal tastes, each song's intention, focal points throughout the song, etc. Wytse really helped me feel like I had a professional walking me through the entire process - exactly what I needed. Ultimately, I mixed and mastered (and released) an entire album with White Sea Studios. <3

I spent YEARS trying to learn how to mix my music. While looking at video tutorials about EQ, compression, reverb, mastering (etc..etc) I found Wytse’s videos. I finally thought to myself, maybe Wytse can mix my music. So I reached out, he said yes and I could not be happier with the results! He is extremely easy to work with, extremely patient, courteous and professional and his work is BRILLIANT. I simply cannot recommend him enough! I’m very lucky to have found him!

Interview with White Sea Studio

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I've been a recording engineer for the "Drum Loops by Steve Gadd" phone app. There are a lot of aspects to be proud of for such a recording session. Working with Steve Gadd has been an honour.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I just finished a german pop-schlager song before I started this interview.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: I'm not aware of any engineers that I personally know or have worked with, I will update this as soon as I know about one.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Both have their place in my workflow, I love analog for its sound and tactile feel, and I love digital for making things a lot easier.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I'm laser focussed on client satisfaction.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: Being in music all day and having the freedom to plan my own days.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Some clients start to apologise if they need a 3rd revision. My answer always is that it's absolutely no problem, I stand behind my unlimited revisions promise (actually since the start of my business) and if a client needs a lot more revisions, it's no problem for me.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: Magic. As much as people believe that audio engineers can do magic, it's just blood, sweat and tears, using skills that have been gained over years and years of experience.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: I don't ask it directly, but what I always want like to hear is the answer to "What is your ambition?"

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Make sure you have a good connection, where you know that everything can be said, and working together feels good.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Monitoring System, Neumann N20, Tegeler Raumzeitmaschine, Gainlab Empress and Elysia Xpressor Neo

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: Been doing this for 12 years, started my career at my audio engineering school, became an intern at Sound Vision Studio and slowly started to build my business in one of their spare rooms. I'm currently still located within the walls of Sound Vision Studio

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Straightforward.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I don't have any ambitions in wanting to work for certain (famous) artists. For me, it's important to have a great and passionate working relationship with my client, where delivering a quality product is the end-goal.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Don't work too long on one thing, taking pauses is very valuable.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: There is a lot of variety in the music I work on, which is one of the things I really appreciate about my clientbase.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Understanding and accepting what a client wants to achieve.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: Amplifying the feel and emotion.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: As much as I like to talk about audio on my Youtube channel, I think that, while working, it's best to start with listening, because listening to a song brings across more information then you can ever talk about. Listening is something I nudge my clients towards as well, by simply sending them my first version without any comments, to make sure my clients listen to the music completely unbiassed.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: My favourite part of my studio setup is the monitoring system. It is hard to bring across something like a monitoring system in a story, but from all the different systems I've tested, the Quasar setup was, by far, the most precise I've ever heard. The signal paths in the studio are very modular, and set-up in such a way that easy recall is possible. In order to tweak a mix or master, I only need to recall the part that needs to be tweaked. There is no need to recall the whole studio for every single revision.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Toto, Taylor Swift, Daft Punk, Rachelle Ferrell, Dire Straits

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Generally, I help my clients with improving their work, this can either be by mixing/mastering it, or by giving feedback on their production.
