My experience with A Nation Muzik has been an impeccable ride so far. AB has motivated me more than I have ever been about craft due to her engineering talents. She has made Down 4 Minez songs go from sounding mixtape quality to album/Lp quality. Stay tuned for new and unreleased material from Down 4 Minez ENT. - D.Dre of Down 4 Minez ENT
Interview with A Nation Muzik
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Ken Lewis, Dave Pensado, Matthew Weiss, David Glenn, Derrick Ali (TDE),
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: a song for a NYC client
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Arsenio Mobley
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: A little of both, nothing is like a heavy duty Analog Compressor, but there are some digital aspects of mixing that are pleasing to my ears as well.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I don't make promises, I Mix hard and let my work speak for it's self.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Bringing something to life!
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Well because I am a female most commonly they ask if I am Single... I just tell them my relationship status is not "Single" or "Taken" it's "In Studio". Next most common question is "Can't you just fix it in the Mix?" I reply with a dial tone.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That I just point and click and wa-la the song is Radio Ready!
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What is your vision for this song?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Respect fellow individuals in the music industry, you might have different views and different ears but you can still come together and make great music!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Reading this question if its a desert island how will I plug my gear up? Never the less I would take my Monitors, interface, midi, Macbook, and microphone.... I could make my own songs and then later Jam to them, being stuck on a DESERT island wouldn't be so bad with a little music...
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I am engineering now, I hope to get into TV, and Film scoring as well as Engineering, and I really really want to get c++ certified and make DAW Plug-Ins as well!
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Blending a Dance Hall Hook that had 15 seperate tracks, very proud of the result and my client was so pleased!
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Outside the box, although that is a cliche' since you are suppose to "Mix in the Box", but I like to be different!
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Kendrick Lamar, I love his vocals and the effects used!
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don't over think the mix!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Hip Hop and R & B
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Presents and Effects
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Color and life. Mixing a song is like painting a picture to me, I add depth and make it vibrant.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Organize the session, clean up, then mix and add effects for color and ambience!
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I use Pro Tools 11, with Waves Mercury, and iZotope Ozone 5.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I have been working a lot with Hip Hop sessions. Contemporary as well as, Relevant sounds and effects.
