It's pretty simple I MIX MUSIC! I am an award winning engineer with over 30 years in the business and a focus on rock music but not limited to it.
I am a 30-year veteran of recording and producing music. After seeing my first Kiss concert at age 7, I knew this was the world I was meant to live in. A lifetime of playing trumpet and drums has given me a grounding in music theory, but it wasn’t until after my first recording session as a drummer that I realized he wanted to do what the man on the other side of the glass was doing.
After taking basic recording classes at a local recording studio, I enrolled at the Recording Workshop, as well as the University of Ohio for recording and music business classes. After graduating at the top of my class, I worked at numerous Chicago studios, including CRC, River North, and Streeterville, eventually finding a home as head engineer for Studio 53. Over the course of five years, I recorded and produced most of the bands in the 80’s/90’s Chicago hard rock scene, including Smash Alley, Radakka, Tommi Gunn and O’Dette. I also worked with major acts like White Lion, Fleshold, Cyclone Temple and Crowbar, as well as many young musicians who went on to form some of today’s top acts–Dan Donegan of Disturbed, Sean Glass and Tim King of Soil, and Josey Scott of Saliva.
After the hair metal boom of the 80’s and 90’s, a change of pace was needed. Taking the head engineer position at Tanglewood Studios, Chuck was able to utilize his music business education in helping to r

Endorse Charles MacakMy band has just started working with Chuck, and we couldn't be more excited for where we're going with the music we've worked on with him. If you want to grow as an artist and make some music that sounds professional, this is the place.
Recording at Electrowerks was such an amazing experience. Chuck Macak is an amazing engineer and such a chill guy to work with. If you’re looking for a place to record at in the Chicagoland area, Electrowerks is the place to go.
I've spent a lot of time at Electrowerks. Chuck and his team work tirelessly to make a truly incredible product for you. Chuck has a fantastic ear for literally any genre and brings a fresh view to the table. He helped us work through problem areas of songs and they ended up being crafted into something that we definitely didn't expect.
I have recorded with Chuck and the Electrowerks guys a couple times now. I was impressed with not only the ever growing artillery of sick gear, but also their dedication to their projects. Chuck is a great guy with one of the best ears around. He helped flush out the bullshit and cut to the heart of the tunes. Highly recommend recording here.
When we recorded our demo tracks we started searching for a good sound engineer to mix the tracks, and we found Chuck Macak. I never thought that our demos can sound that good.
It's very difficult to find a high-level sound engineer like Chuck.Hope to work with him again! My experiences recording at Electrowerks have been incredible. Producer/Engineer, Chuck Macak's experience, ear, and passion for his work separates Electrowerks from all other studios around. I have recorded at many of the top studios in the Chicagoland area, and Electrowerks is always the place where I leave with a product that I am proud of.
Let me preface by saying Charles Macak, the owner of Electrowerks, has 20+ years in the music industry, recording in general, and is a great man. The equipment they have is no less than amazing, the staff is supportive and great, and there is a team mentality when working. Go in with an open mind, let the staff do their job, and have a great time!
My time at Electrowerks was one of the best musical experiences in my life so far. Charles Macak is one of the most experienced engineers I've known. When a new music project comes along Chuck makes sure that everything is in the best shape and quality it can be. One of the best places to be doing any project at.
