Interview with Thomas Abele
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I am currently working on building up a website for myself and to get any work i can.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: In a class project we took one of the trailers for the movie FURY and stripped it of all audio. After that as a class we recreated all the sounds. Music, Foley, Vocals, and every other sound. It was probably my favorite project we worked and some may say its better than the original trailer.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The music. I can't live without music, so it's always nice to hear something i haven't yet.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: People believe that I make music when I say I mix, I do not. I mix music in the idea of making the music sound clean or ideal to the client.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I ask them what they are expecting and what the want done. I ask them if they had an issue with their last mixer and if so what it was.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I love kick drum so i make sure that it sounds real nice, but every part is equally important in a mix.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I wish I could have had the chance to work with Led Zeppelin but that's impossible.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I can't say. I enjoy working on all styles of music.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Post production editing and mixing.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My work process changes depending on the job.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: My Band teacher from high school really got me into the world of audio so I'd say he's my inspiration.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I am generally asked to mix music for my clients.
