Interview with Nicholas Allen Huhn

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: On my sound cloud I played a show with my dad and his band it was the last show we ever got to play together. I was playing hand drums mostly

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Looking into remixing songs to fit edm and add percussion to it

  5. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  6. A: Playing music duh

  7. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  8. A: Most musicians I know do not take percussion seriously or understand how important it can be since they think just a drum set player is enough

  9. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  10. A: Reference an artist or song that the song maybe in the style of, if you know what percussion you would like me to use tell me.

  11. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  12. A: My djembe, cowbell, shaker, surdo, timbales

  13. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  14. A: I do not have much experience under my belt but I have been playing for 7 years

  15. Q: How would you describe your style?

  16. A: It's hard to say since I play so much different percussion and it depends on the style of music too but I was trained as a rock style drummer first

  17. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  18. A: Santana because they are a huge inspiration to what I play

  19. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  20. A: Rock

  21. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  22. A: I am a impoverished player at heart so I can adapt to different music fast

  23. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  24. A: I add flavor to the song if they is already drums, or I supply the drums myself

  25. Q: What's your typical work process?

  26. A: Listen to the music, decide what to use, pick a few patterns, play to it, record it, review it, repeat process if necessary.

  27. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  28. A: I have a 3 main "kits" 1. Is my drum set which is a 4 piece pearl kit with a double pedal, with a hit hat, crash and ride cymbals. 2. Is my stick percussion setup with my pair of timbales, mini timbales, piccolo snare, surdo, mounted pandeiro, cowbells, Blocks, triangle, mounted tambourine and a splash cymbal. And 3. Is my Hand drum setup with a pair of congas, bongos, djembe,cajun, and other hand drums like my doumbek, talking drum, tar drum, etc and some other stuff like a shekere, cabassa, cleaves, rain stick, guiro, shakers, etc. Most of it is connected to a 12 channel mixer that is connected to a recorder

  30. A: Santana, the cat empire, AFISHAL

  31. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  32. A: Supply audio tracks of me playing percussion
