Interview with Savannah Jaine

  1. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  2. A: I studied music in university in America, lived and worked as a songwriter in Nashville for a few years, moved to New York and worked as a jazz musician, toured with Carnival Cruiselines around the world and am currently "busking around the world" via my blog (Darling Jaine songs) and moving to Melbourne, Australia soon.

  3. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  4. A: I'd love to work with Snarky Puppy, because I think I could really be myself as a vocalist with them behind me!

  5. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  6. A: pop music.

  7. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  8. A: versatility.

  9. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  10. A: I think my vocal training and experience being a jazz instrumentalist brings eccentricity and originality. I don't sing things like every other pop star does, and I like that about myself.

  11. Q: What's your typical work process?

  12. A: When writing, i like to immerse myself in the project and hear the inspirations for the music already created. When singing, I like to listen as many times as possible and really try to think of different and original melody lines and adlibs that will be commercial and really make the project stand out.

  13. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  14. A: I record on Logic on my Macbook and have an old but trusty microphone and interface I take with me on tour around the world.

  15. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  16. A: Vulfpeck is a favourite of mine as well as Snarky Puppy and Esperanza Spalding.

  17. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  18. A: Most commonly I am given a melody line and asked to record lyrics and lead vocals on a track. Whether its being used a demo vocal or the final project, I like being the first artist to sing something and bring my originality to the project!
