Interview with Barr's Backyard

  1. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  2. A: You will be satisfied with the final product!!!

  3. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  4. A: To me, tight drums at the recording is really important. It is really hard to get a good feel from anything if the drus aren't tight. I always try to plan more time to record drums that we actually need. If we record everything off the floor, I will still get the drummer for 1 day to tune, mic and talk about the drum feel I am looking for.

  5. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  6. A: I work a lot on acoustic stuff: folk, country, songwriter, soft pop.

  7. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  8. A: My sound is natural. I aim at making things sound as good as possible without loosing the organic feel. Piano will sound like a piano, acoustic guitars will sound like acoustic guitars. I go out of my way to get everything to sound as natural as possible.

  9. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  10. A: I work a lot with a mobile rig. It allows me to travel with my recording studio and record demos, edit and arrange projects on the fly. When I am mixing, I get my mobile rig in my studio where I am equipped with Genelec monitors and protools controler. As you can tell, I work a lot in the box.

  11. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  12. A: My main area of expertise is mix and production. I work with my clients from the beginning to get to know them and their music very well. I coach the artists in studio, I take care of all the editing, alignement and everything that has to be done before we get to the mix and I mix the tracks. The client is obviously part of all that process.
